September sees 50% surge in used EV searches.

September sees 50% surge in used EV searches. Interest in used EVs continues to boom as fuel prices remain high and more drivers recognised the benefits of going electric. New data from AA Cars shows that views of secondhand EVs jumped 49.6% in September, compared with a year previously. They were also up 37% compared with August 2026. James Hosking, managing director of AA Cars, said the growing interest in EVs showed the impact of the continued fuel crisis, which has pushed diesel to more than £2 per litre, as well as the ever-growing choice of EVs to suit all budgets and applications. The quarterly used car index from the online marketplace showed that searches for eight of the 10 most popular EVs were up in September and also showed a broad variety among the most-viewed models. The Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3 and Renault Zoe remained the three most searched-for EVs in Q3, in the same order as a year earlier, but other popular searches included the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, Skoda Enyaq and Jaguar I-Pace. On average, used EV prices remained fairly static compared with last year and were just 1% more expensive than petrol equivalents - down from 3% in quarter two. Average advertised prices across the 10 most searched-for used EVs stood at £18,633, with an average age of around four years. Five of the 10 models were cheaper than a year earlier, while two of the 10 most searched-for used EVs averaged below £10,000 in Q3: the Renault Zoe at £8,255 and the Nissan Leaf at £8,693. Hoskins said the relative stability of prices might hint at an end to the sharp price adjustments seen in recent years, but noted it was too early to call it a long-term trend. He commented: "Used electric cars are becoming an increasingly attractive option for motorists, with greater choice, more competitive prices and rising petrol and diesel costs giving drivers fresh reasons to consider making the switch. For buyers looking for a relatively modern car without the price tag of a brand-new model, the used EV market now offers some compelling options. "Cost has traditionally been one of the biggest barriers to EV ownership, but the used market has evolved significantly. With a growing range of models available at different price points, buyers can increasingly compare electric cars with their petrol and diesel equivalents on age, condition and overall value, rather than assuming that going electric means paying a premium."

Your Kia could power your home. So why must Belgium wait until 2028?

Your Kia could power your home. So why must Belgium wait until 2028? October 30, 2026 Kia is already testing bidirectional charging with the EV9 in the Netherlands, but Belgian owners must wait until at least late 2028 to use their cars as home batteries /Kia Belgian Kia drivers hoping to use their electric cars as giant home batteries face a frustrating wait. Although the vehicles already have the necessary hardware, Kia Belgium has confirmed to Newmobility.news that Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionality is not expected before the fourth quarter of 2028. Across the border, Kia is already testing bidirectional charging in 80 Dutch households, although commercial availability there remains uncertain. Meanwhile, competitors such as Renault and BMW are already offering solutions in selected European markets. More controversially, Kia warns that independent bidirectional charging solutions may stop working after software updates. This raises an uncomfortable question: who really controls the battery customers have already paid for? Hardware ready, software not. Kia Belgium confirms that its electric models have the hardware to support V2X applications, including supplying electricity to homes or the grid. However, the necessary software, communication protocols, and approved charging infrastructure are still being developed. For now, owners must settle for Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), which powers individual appliances but cannot integrate the vehicle battery into a home's energy system. Kia says availability in Belgium is expected from Q4 2028. It does not guarantee that every existing EV6, EV3, or EV9 will receive the functionality through a software update. Independent solutions face uncertainty. The situation is particularly frustrating because independent specialists have already demonstrated what is technically possible. Belgian energy specialist Watt's Next lists successful bidirectional DC charging tests with several electric cars, including the Kia EV6, Volvo EX30, Volkswagen ID.5, Tesla Model Y, and Porsche Taycan, all tested in Belgium in late 2024. More recent independent tests, however, suggest that the situation has changed for Kia: while a 2024 EV6 could still discharge successfully, EV3 and EV9 models from the 2026 and 2027 model years reportedly refused to do so. The reason remains unconfirmed. Kia does not confirm that a June 2026 firmware update deliberately blocked these systems. But its statement is revealing: "the manufacturer does not support third-party solutions outside its approved framework" and warns that such solutions may cease to function after vehicle software updates. That leaves owners relying on independent solutions facing uncertainty about compatibility, future updates, and warranty implications. Meanwhile, competitors are moving ahead. Across the border, Kia and Hyundai are already testing V2G with Vattenfall in the Netherlands. Up to 80 households with a Kia EV9 or Hyundai IONIQ 9 are participating in a six-month pilot program that feeds electricity back to the grid during peak demand. Other manufacturers have progressed further commercially. Renault introduced its Power V2G service for private customers in the Netherlands in May 2026, following its launch in France. Compatible Renault 4 and Renault 5 models can return electricity through a Newmobility.news Drive Solar charging station, although a dedicated service and energy arrangement are required. BMW has also moved ahead in Belgium. Its new iX3 supports V2H via the 7.4 kW BMW Wallbox Professional, which is offered for €1,700 before installation. These examples also highlight a broader problem: bidirectional charging often depends on manufacturer-approved equipment and software, and sometimes on a specific energy supplier. Who owns the energy? For households with solar panels, V2H could make a substantial difference. Instead of buying a separate home battery, drivers could store surplus solar electricity in their car during the day and use it in the evening. V2G goes further by allowing electricity to flow back into the public grid. Yet hardware compatibility alone is not enough. Safety certification, local grid requirements, communication standards, and commercial agreements all complicate deployment. Independent specialists such as Watt's Next advocate broader compatibility rather than dependence on a single manufacturer's ecosystem. For Kia owners in Belgium, however, the immediate reality is simple: their electric cars may be technically capable of powering their homes, but officially supported access to that functionality remains at least two years away. And even the late-2028 date is a target, not a firm guarantee.

Reading opens doors: DP World and Motus Community Trust open 100th library.

Reading opens doors: DP World and Motus Community Trust open 100th library. Published: October 30, 2026 Katlehong - The DP World and Motus Community Trust has opened its 100th school library at Katlehong Primary School in Ekurhuleni. The milestone that represents more than a decade of sustained investment in literacy, learning and hope in underserved communities. Commenting on the milestone of on Tuesday 27 October 2026, Ockert Janse van Rensburg, Motus Chief Executive Officer, said the significance lies in the lasting change each library can inspire. "Creating access is an important first step, but lasting outcomes stem from creating environments where learners feel comfortable using this access and applying it to improve their future prospects," Janse van Rensburg said. This journey was born out of the Group's relationship with Ukhamba Holdings. In 2003, Hafiz Mahomed and the late Bill Lynch established the Imperial and Ukhamba Community Development Trust with an initial focus on improving mathematics and science results in township schools. Discover more News subscription service World news updates Political news commentary Over time, the Trust recognised a deeper need; before learners could thrive in these subjects, they needed the literacy skills to understand, engage and imagine what was possible. That insight sparked a shift towards literacy and reading with comprehension, with libraries and resource centres becoming a central part of the Trust's education programme from 2010. Today, each library is a place where curiosity can take root, reaching 125 000 learners every day. Learners gain access to books, technology and dedicated spaces for reading, research and study. A trained, full-time librarian assistant is there to guide them, help them use these resources with confidence and nurture a lasting culture of reading and learning. Central to this work is a well-established reading programme facilitated by the librarian, which teaches foundational literacy skills to learners in Grades 1-3. The programme has yielded improvements in reading for meaning, ensuring that learners not only learn to read, but to understand the content as well. For Hafiz Mahomed, Chairman of the DP World and Motus Community Trust, the 100th library is a powerful reminder of what patient, purposeful investment can make possible. "What began as part of a Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment transaction in 2003 has grown into one of South Africa's most enduring and sustainable literacy programmes," Mahomed said. "Behind each of these one hundred libraries stands a school, a community, a generation of learners and a team of dedicated educators who believe that books, properly chosen and properly used, and a conducive environment can change a child's trajectory." The impact now reaches far beyond the library walls. More than 230 000 learners have benefited from the programme, while surrounding communities have gained new opportunities too. Librarian assistant roles provide young people with employment and skills development prospects, and some former assistants have gone on to become teachers and heads of department - extending the programme's legacy into the next generation. This enduring impact has been made possible through collaboration. The DP World and Motus Community Trust have worked alongside partners including Europcar, Hyundai and Renault, as well as the YES4Youth programme. Together with the governance and oversight of the trustees, these partnerships have kept the programme focused on meaningful, long-term change. Discover more Tour Colleges Daily news digest For Janse van Rensburg, the scale of the investment matters because it is inseparable from Motus' core purpose: Mobility for Good. "Motus is an organisation deeply rooted in South Africa,"' Janse van Rensburg said. "Through this initiative, we are investing in resources, people, and partnerships because we believe sustained access to literacy can help create opportunities that will impact the lives of individuals, families, communities and, ultimately, our country." The 100th library is far more than a number. It represents thousands of young lives given room to read, learn and dream - and shows what is possible when sustained investment, committed partners and a shared belief in social upliftment come together for South Africa's future. Renault Group confirms 2026 guidance as Q3 revenue rises.

Renault Group confirms 2026 guidance as Q3 revenue rises. The company reaffirmed its expectations for an operating margin of approximately 5.5% of group revenue and automotive free cash flow of around €1bn. French car maker Renault Group has reiterated its full-year financial outlook for 2026 following a 1.5% year-on-year rise in third quarter revenue to €11.60bn ($12.90bn). The company reaffirmed its expectations for an operating margin of approximately 5.5% of group revenue and automotive free cash flow of around €1bn. A slight improvement in operating margin is anticipated in the second half of the year relative to the first six months, though elevated raw material expenses and inflation are expected to make the standard seasonal increase less pronounced. During the third quarter, automotive revenue reached €9.83bn, matching the figure from the prior year and representing a 0.2% decline at constant exchange rates. Total vehicle deliveries fell 6% year-on-year to 497,799 units. Within this total, sales of the Renault brand declined 2.9%, and Dacia sales contracted 12.8%, whereas Alpine recorded a 58.4% increase. Retail sales across Europe rose by 5%. Electric vehicle (EV) deliveries increased 84.7% year-on-year during the quarter, raising the group's EV proportion by 12.2 percentage points to 25.8%. When incorporating hybrid and plug-in hybrid passenger cars, electrified models accounted for 54.9% of total group passenger car volumes. Across the first nine months of 2026, Renault generated €41.85bn in revenue, up 7.1% compared with the corresponding period in 2025, or 7.6% at constant exchange rates. Automotive turnover increased 6.6% to €36.6bn. Group vehicle sales dropped 2.2% year-on-year over the nine-month period to 1,662,222 units. Renault brand sales rose 1.1% to 1,178,946 vehicles, supported by a 3.1% volume increase in Europe that placed the brand second in that market year-on-year. Dacia sold 471,007 vehicles, representing a 9.7% drop, while Alpine delivered 12,269 units, a 65.6% rise. EV sales expanded 59.4% during the nine months, making up 20.9% of passenger car sales. Product introductions scheduled for the second half of the year feature the new Megane E-Tech electric, Trafic Van E-Tech electric, and Duster E-Tech hybrid for the Renault brand, alongside the Sandero Hybrid, new Spring, and Striker for Dacia. Renault Group CFO Duncan Minto said: "Renault Group delivered resilient Q3 revenue, once again demonstrating the strength and agility of our operating model.
