HP and Hyperion partner to expand tungsten carbide Additive Manufacturing.

HP and Hyperion partner to expand tungsten carbide Additive Manufacturing. October 28, 2026 HP Additive Manufacturing (HP), based in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Spain, and Hyperion Materials & Technologies, Worthington, Ohio, USA, have announced a Strategic Preferred Partner Agreement aimed at expanding the commercial use of tungsten carbide (WC) Additive Manufacturing. The companies intend to make rapid prototyping and production-ready WC components more accessible to industrial customers worldwide. In October 2026, Hyperion installed a new HP Metal Jet S100 machine at its production facility in Barcelona. The collaboration combines HP's Binder Jetting (BJT) Additive Manufacturing machine with Hyperion's expertise in WC manufacturing, sintering and finishing. The companies state that this will provide a route from application development and qualification through to serial production. The process uses Hyperion's new CarbiForm range of ready-to-use tungsten carbide powders, developed specifically for BJT Additive Manufacturing. The powders have been tested for use with HP Metal Jet printers in conjunction with Hyperion's sintering operations. "This preferred partner agreement allows us to combine our decades of hard-materials experience with HP's highly scalable Additive Manufacturing platform," stated Biju Varghese, Chief Technology Officer at Hyperion. "The result is a new manufacturing option for customers looking to create complex, high-performance tungsten carbide components and bring them to production with confidence." According to the companies, the collaboration could enable manufacturers to produce complex geometries, application-specific features, consolidated components and customised solutions that may be difficult or uneconomical to manufacture using conventional methods. They also identify opportunities to shorten development cycles and improve material utilisation while maintaining the performance characteristics of tungsten carbide required for demanding industrial applications. "Hyperion brings the depth of expertise needed to help scale WC Additive Manufacturing on HP Metal Jet printers," said Arvind Rangarajan, Head of Product & Strategy at HP Additive Manufacturing. "Its knowledge across the tungsten carbide value chain, combined with HP's technology, can help customers translate the design freedom of Additive Manufacturing into reliable, production-ready components." With commercial manufacturing capability now available through Hyperion using its HP Metal Jet S100 machine, the companies plan to work jointly with customers to identify and qualify applications where tungsten carbide Additive Manufacturing could offer technical and economic advantages.

PC shipments fall 21% to 57M units as AI servers drive up memory costs

Global PC shipments fell 21% year over year in the third quarter, to 57 million units, Counterpoint Research said on October 22, 2026. Rising memory and component costs pushed up PC prices and held back demand. AI servers use far more memory than PCs, so chipmakers are shifting capacity to server chips. TrendForce expects fourth-quarter DRAM contract prices to rise 10% to 15% and NAND flash prices 15% to 20%. HP shipped 10.3 million units, down 31%, the steepest drop among the top six vendors. Dell fell 25% to 7.6 million, and Lenovo fell 23% to 15.0 million. Dell has a $95 billion AI server backlog. Apple shipped 11% fewer Macs but raised its share to 9.8% from 8.7%. Counterpoint expects a 27% annual decline in the fourth quarter.

Infinity and HP double AI workload capacity on GB300-powered ZGX Fury without new hardware

Infinity, an automated AI research company, has teamed up with HP Inc to double the concurrent workloads and token throughput of NVIDIA's Nemotron 3 Super model on the HP ZGX Fury, without changing the hardware. The desktop machine runs on NVIDIA's GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip. In testing, the setup handled about twice as many concurrent requests at the same responsiveness threshold. Infinity delivered the first gain in under 24 hours of engineering work and has kept optimising since. Infinity's engineers tuned the inference stack using techniques from vLLM, NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM, and SGLang, plus their own methods. Gartner forecasts that global spending on AI inference will overtake spending on AI training this year, at $23.3 billion versus $19 billion. Infinity was founded in August 2025 and is backed by Touring Capital.
