Requirements
  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Valid State of Florida Acute Care APRN License
  • Valid State of Florida Physician Assistant License
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Gastroenterology or Hepatology Practice
  • Previous training or experience in Acute care setting with GI and/or Hepatology practice as APRN or PA
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health regulations
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
  • Performs in tactful and professional manner
  • CITI Certification for Clinical Research Study participation
  • Previous experience with EPIC EMR software, or demonstrated ability to manage patients in EMR
Responsibilities
  • Assess physical and psychosocial status of patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting
  • See GI and/or Hepatology patients in an outpatient clinic setting by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies
  • Potential inpatient M-F rotation on the UMH Hepatology inpatient service for the right candidate
  • Ambulatory outpatient work requiring 7-8 half days in outpatient ambulatory clinics and at Uhealth locations (UHhealth Towers, UMHC Crohns and Colitis Center, Kendall, Lennar, Doral, Sole Mia, Boca, Plantation, Deerfield sites)
  • Inpatient rotations: APP will round both independently and collaboratively on Hepatology Inpatient Service at University of Miami hospital no later than 8 am and have proper sign-out of patients with fellows at the end of the day and prior to weekends
  • Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment and works with physician to formulate treatment plans
  • Writes prescriptions for medication and blood products based on lab results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care per written protocols
  • Independently follow patients in an outpatient setting and manage care concurrently
  • Initiates and facilitates clinical research protocols and coordinates patient care with research staff
  • Obtains complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician
  • See patients in follow-up in between infusions and post procedure as necessary
  • Initiate and Maintain infusion orders for non-chemo infusions as per protocol
  • Orders appropriate procedures and laboratory tests according to practice guidelines
  • Develops, implements and evaluates a plan of care appropriate for patient and family
  • Actively participates in quality assurance programs and peer review activities
  • Provide assistance to physicians in the care and treatment of patients
  • Provide medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner
  • Administers nursing assessments including performing examinations, giving injections and assessing a patient's health status
  • Assess severity of patient's condition, determining and directing patients to appropriate medical providers
  • Provide peer-to-peer reviews with insurance carriers in support of patients medications
  • Consents patients for GI procedures, and places orders for procedures and preps
  • Maintain EMR inbox and close encounters in a timely fashion according to UMMG guidelines
  • Respond to patient inquiries and requests, and communicate results to patients in coordination with back office Nurses, Medical Assistants and Secretaries
  • Provide inbasket message coverage for Providers who depart the practice, or are out on FMLA
  • Close inbasket messages within 7 days
  • Close encounters within 3 days of visit
  • Must have annual flu vaccine, unless able to provide medical or religious documentation
