Requirements
  • Five or more years of experience in heavy civil construction, surveying, construction modeling, or related Computer-Aided Design and Building Information Modeling roles.
  • Proven track record of building and managing digital terrain models and utility models for large civil projects such as highways, roads, earthwork, pipelines, and bridges.
  • High proficiency with Trimble Business Center, including experience with Trimble Global Positioning System and machine control workflows.
  • Ability to process survey data and create models that interface with Trimble field equipment such as total stations and Global Navigation Satellite System receivers.
  • Technical proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D for civil design and modeling.
  • Strong proficiency with SketchUp and other Computer-Aided Design or Building Information Modeling software.
  • Deep understanding of heavy civil construction processes, including grading techniques, utility installation, and road construction.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in managing, training, and supervising a technical team of drafters, modelers, or survey staff.
  • Ability to work full-time, in-person in Apache Junction, Arizona.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and management of comprehensive 3D models for heavy civil construction projects, including surface terrain models, roadway alignments, utility networks, and structural components.
  • Process survey data and integrate engineering design files to produce construction-ready models for machine control, staking, and visualization.
  • Establish and maintain Computer-Aided Design and Building Information Modeling standards, templates, and workflows for the Construction Technology Group.
  • Implement version control and quality checks to ensure model integrity throughout the project lifecycle, including updating models for design changes and as-builts.
  • Collaborate with estimators, engineers, project managers, and field supervisors to gather requirements and facilitate model reviews.
  • Coordinate with field crews and surveying teams to deploy models for Global Positioning System machine control systems and layout.
  • Troubleshoot and refine models based on field feedback or unforeseen site conditions to improve construction efficiency.
  • Train and mentor a team of technicians in software tools and best practices for construction modeling.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging construction technologies, software, and processes to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
  • Partner with Information Technology and other departments to manage hardware, software licensing, upgrades, and technical support for modeling tools.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications or training in Computer-Aided Design, Building Information Modeling, surveying, or Trimble technology.
  • Familiarity with additional tools such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Revit for infrastructure.
  • Experience with emerging technologies such as drone photogrammetry, 4D modeling, or Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality applications for construction.
