Requirements
  • Provide a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or from a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Have at least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 3 years.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross for Healthcare Providers, or an equivalent American Heart Association or American Red Cross Healthcare Provider Course.
  • Meet all health screening and vaccination requirements.
  • Be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain base access and complete credentialing requirements.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation written within the last two years that attest to clinical, communication, patient-relations, professional, and interpersonal skills. At least one letter must be from a physician or supervisor who personally observed and evaluated the candidate's clinical skills; the other may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician, or nurse familiar with similar patient-care work.
Responsibilities
  • Provide deployment health screening services to service members individually or in groups at the clinic or Line unit.
  • Schedule initial and follow-up appointments or referrals for service members.
  • Document patient medical support and assist patients with forms in electronic systems or paper backup forms.
  • Input patient results accurately into required systems and properly handle, file, and store completed forms in medical records.
  • Become proficient with online patient and Military Treatment Facility systems for accurate data recording.
  • Contact Line Commanders and schedule initial screenings in coordination with Military Treatment Facility processes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, healthcare team members, patients, and families to enhance care and resolve concerns.
  • Participate in staff development programs, cross-training initiatives, and performance-improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and concise patient records in manual and electronic formats.
  • Engage in self-directed learning, continuing education, and competency validation.
  • Contribute to the orientation, training, and evaluation of newly assigned personnel.
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, and Military Treatment Facility-specific policies in patient care.
