Requirements
  • Knowledge of the less-than-truckload and transportation industry.
  • Experience managing drivers and dockworkers.
  • Knowledge of the geographical area surrounding the Service Center.
  • Ability to perform administrative and operational duties in an office and dock environment, including standing and walking for extended periods, pushing or pulling equipment, operating material-handling equipment, and occasionally assisting with physical dock tasks such as handling freight and related materials.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands required to perform the essential functions of the job, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and implement methods and procedures that ensure the most efficient and economical routing and movement of customers’ freight in an error-free manner.
  • Compile production and service records and measure conformance to standards.
  • Inspect and measure personnel performance, implementing changes in work practices necessary to improve overall Service Center operations.
  • Review logs and reports and confer with shift personnel to determine scheduling, production, and administrative support requirements.
  • Set up appointment freight deliveries.
  • Perform or assist with billing, rating, manifesting, and analysis of freight weight and size.
  • Maintain communication with external and internal customers.
  • Assist with training, development, and evaluation of production and clerical personnel performance, and recommend or initiate documentation.
  • In conjunction with the Service Center Manager, recruit, qualify, interview, hire, train, and develop Service Center personnel.
  • Ensure that Service Center premises are protected and maintained.
  • Assist with investigating and reporting accidents, job-related injuries, and employee discrepancies, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Understand and apply company safety practices, including Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, Interstate Commerce Commission, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations.
  • Assist with facilitating information meetings with Service Center team members.
  • Handle special assignments as directed.
  • Perform administrative and operational duties in an office and dock environment, including operating material-handling equipment and assisting with physical dock tasks as needed.
