Requirements
  • A master's degree in nursing is required.
  • A current and unencumbered Texas Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Current healthcare provider cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
  • Candidates must meet current clinical requirements, including immunizations, tuberculosis status, and negative background checks mandated by clinical partners.
  • Candidates must demonstrate clinical competency relevant to the instructional assignment through current clinical practice documentation, specialty certification, or another mechanism approved by the campus administrator.
  • Candidates must demonstrate extensive clinical practice in their area of specialization.
  • Candidates must be able to supervise up to 10 students for up to 9 hours two days per week and assist students in caring for clients in acute-care and community settings.
  • Candidates must demonstrate judgment, communication, sensory, emotional, intellectual, behavioral, and physical abilities necessary to safely practice nursing and nursing education.
  • Candidates must provide documents establishing identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Provide didactic and clinical instruction in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, clinically focused Master of Science in Nursing programs, and Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
  • Develop and implement instructional strategies through lectures, seminars, distributed media, and synchronous or asynchronous course delivery.
  • Provide instruction in classroom, clinical, and simulated clinical laboratory environments, either virtually or in person as assigned.
  • Integrate relevant clinical expertise, case studies, research, and theoretical literature into coursework and student learning experiences.
  • Evaluate teaching impact using student competencies, student satisfaction, peer feedback, and other student-outcome evidence.
  • Meet regularly with lead full-time faculty, faculty course teams, and the assistant or associate dean.
  • Assign, supervise, and evaluate nursing students' clinical skills acquisition and direct client care.
  • Participate in program orientation provided by the program director or track manager.
  • Assist with evaluating clinical sites and recommending new or renewed memoranda of understanding or contracts with clinical agencies.
  • Review the College of Nursing's philosophy, goals, instructional objectives, and student performance expectations, and assist full-time faculty in evaluating alignment with clinical agencies.
  • Maintain physical presence at assigned clinical facilities as necessary to provide safe instructional oversight and meet Texas Board of Nursing and clinical-partner expectations.
  • Meet periodically with students and preceptors in clinical areas to evaluate the quality of preceptorship experiences and student proficiency.
  • Participate in evaluating student achievement and complete other teaching-focused assignments related to teaching experience and clinical specialization.
Desired Qualifications
  • A practice doctorate in nursing or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience, such as hospital staff development or clinical education, is preferred but not required.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized professional organization in a clinical specialty is highly preferred.
