Our wine supplier of the year 2026: Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits.

Its wine supplier of the year 2026: Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits. By Melissa Dowling October 13, 2026 Perhaps one of the biggest trend impacting the beverage alcohol business is the normalization of moderation. That's been a bonus for Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits, its wine supplier of the year. Trinchero won four Wine Growth Brands in 2026, for Seaglass, Fre, Avissi and Echo Bay, as well as a Rising Star award for its Atomic Boss ready-to-drink beverage. Brie Wohld, the company's vice president of marketing, notes that consumers today seek wines that fit into a wider range of moments - lighter styles, lower-alcohol options, alcohol-free alternatives - without sacrificing quality or experience. "We've made significant strides in expanding our portfolio to meet evolving consumer needs, particularly with our alcohol-removed wines," she says, which include Fre, Luminara, and Seaglass alcohol-removed. With a 43% dollar share, Fre remains the clear category leader and benchmark for quality non-alcoholic wine, Wohld adds. Trinchero launched Fre in 1992 - long before the modern sober-curious movement. "Fre's established credibility, broad availability, and proven taste profile have allowed it to capture incremental consumers while retaining loyal buyers," Wohld notes. Unveiling Seaglass alcohol-removed wine in 2024 allowed the brand "to participate in the fast-growing moderation space while staying true to our core of coastal refreshment and quality," Wohld says. Trinchero plans to accelerate momentum "by continuing to expand distribution, deepen our presence in key markets and invest in innovation across full-strength, light, and alcohol-removed wines." Avissi benefitted from continued interest in prosecco combined with focused distribution expansion, while demand for crisp, aromatic whites helped grow the Echo Bay New Zealand sauvignon blanc brand. A true family affair. The story began when Italian immigrant Mario Trinchero, who had becomes a successful bartender at the Waldorf Astoria, moved his family from New York to Napa Valley in 1947. He joined his brother John in purchasing the Sutter Home winery, then one of just 15 wineries in Napa. The entire Trinchero family - Mario, his wife Mary and their children Bob, Vera and Roger - worked together to build the business. The company began acquiring other wineries in the 1980s. Core wine brands today include Joel Gott, Menage a Tois and Bieler Père et Fils, among others. It acquired Mumm Napa from Pernod Ricard earlier this year. A company claim to fame is the accidental creation of white zinfandel in 1975 by Bob Trinchero. A stuck fermentation in a batch of Sutter Home Family Vineyards white zinfandel left residual sugar and created the sweet, modern style that became the best-selling wine of its time. By the late 1990s, Sutter Home became the number-one table wine brand in the U.S., producing over 5 million cases of white zinfandel annually. Now one of the largest family-owned wineries in the U.S., Trinchero Family Wine and Spirits boasts more than 50 award-winning wine and spirits brands, distributed globally. Congratulations to its Wine supplier of the year: Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits - here's to the next 80 years! Melissa Dowling is editor of Cheers magazine, its on-premise sister publication. The brand focuses on premium de-alcoholized sparkling Rosé and White blends (SRP $15.99), emphasizing balance, acidity, and drinkability rather than alcohol removal alone. In 2025, Libby emerged as a high-growth brand in the non-alcohol set and has continued to expand nationwide distribution since. "Partnering with Trinchero gives us the scale and expertise to take Libby to the national stage while continuing to elevate what consumers expect from non-alcoholic wine," said Grant Hemingway, CEO and Co-Founder of Libby. "Together, we see a real opportunity to help shape the next generation of the category." "Libby is a strong addition to our non-alcoholic portfolio and aligns with our goal of bringing more consumers into the wine category, while also supporting our customers by helping them build more dynamic shelf sets with a broader range of high-quality non- and low-alcohol options," said Brie Wohld, Vice President, Marketing for Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits. Pernod Ricard sells California sparkling wine brands to Trinchero Family Wine and Spirits.

Pernod Ricard sells California sparkling wine brands to Trinchero Family Wine and Spirits. French drinks giant accelerates U.S. wine exit as it sharpens focus on champagne and spirits portfolio. 2026-04-06 Pernod Ricard has completed the sale of its California sparkling wine brands, marking a significant shift in its U.S. wine business. The French group announced it finalized the sale of its Mumm Napa sparkling wines, excluding champagne, to California-based Trinchero Family Wine and Spirits. The deal also includes the Mumm Sparkling California and DVX brands. Trinchero, which has operated in Napa Valley for 75 years, is one of the leading wine producers in the United States. The transaction amount was not disclosed. Pernod Ricard clarified that the sale does not include the G.H. Mumm champagne brand or other international Mumm operations. In a separate move, Pernod Ricard also confirmed the sale of its Kenwood Vineyards in Sonoma Valley to F. Korbel & Bros, another California producer known for sparkling wines. This deal covers about eight hectares of vineyards, winemaking facilities, and Kenwood's visitor center. The financial terms were not made public. These sales are part of Pernod Ricard's ongoing strategy to focus on its core businesses of champagne and spirits. In 2025, the company had already divested an international portfolio of wines as it shifted attention away from still wines in favor of higher-margin products. The company stated that these transactions reflect its continuous evaluation of strategic opportunities. The moves come at a time when the global alcoholic beverage market faces challenges, with slower growth and changing consumer preferences affecting sales across categories. Against this backdrop, Pernod Ricard and Brown-Forman, the American owner of Jack Daniel's whiskey, confirmed on March 26 that they are in talks regarding a possible merger. Both companies see potential benefits in combining their commercial strengths across different markets. Pernod Ricard's exit from most of its U.S. wine business signals a broader trend among major beverage groups to streamline portfolios and concentrate on premium segments where they hold strong positions. The company continues to invest in its champagne brands and spirits portfolio as it adapts to evolving market conditions and prepares for possible consolidation within the industry. Liked the read?
