Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, evaluation, planning, and execution of clinical studies.
  • Ensure scientific integrity and interpretation of study data from a clinical development program.
  • Provide medical and scientific direction to project and study teams.
  • Participate in internal process improvement activities within Research and Development and Clinical Development.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Design, direct, execute, and interpret clinical trials and data collection activities supporting the Product Development Plan within time and budget constraints and in compliance with scientific, regulatory, and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate, deliver, report, and interpret high-quality clinical data supporting product scientific and business strategy.
  • Monitor adherence to protocols and ensure correct endpoint data collection.
  • Design Clinical Development Plans spanning early translational development activities through mature product life-cycle strategies.
  • Design, conduct, and report clinical trials in line with development, regulatory, and commercial strategy.
  • Review, interpret, and communicate accumulating safety and efficacy data for the asset.
  • Oversee study enrollment and overall timelines for key deliverables in collaboration with Clinical Operations.
  • Lead 0–5 employees in a matrixed environment when applicable.
  • Manage external expert and investigator engagement within the therapeutic area when applicable.
  • Coordinate scientific activities with internal stakeholders including medical affairs, commercial, clinical operations, discovery, statistics, and regulatory teams.
  • Assist with scientific education for investigators, clinical monitors, and Global Project Team members related to the therapeutic area.
  • Maintain current professional and technological knowledge through conferences and medical literature and act as a subject matter expert.
  • Represent AbbVie at investigator meetings, scientific association meetings, partner discussions, and other external meetings.
  • Understand and comply with regulatory requirements related to clinical studies.
  • Coordinate and develop information for reports submitted to the Food and Drug Administration and global regulatory authorities.
  • Initiate research projects compatible with project plan goals and drive them to completion, resulting in high-quality publications.
  • Lead cross-functional sub-teams overseeing defined sub-projects within the therapeutic area.
  • Ensure the scientific validity, integrity, and overall quality of Clinical Development Plans and clinical content, including protocols, investigator brochures, clinical data reviews, clinical study reports, regulatory submissions, and publications.
  • Contribute scientific and clinical expertise to the development of Clinical Development Plans.
  • Lead the scientific and clinical aspects of executing the defined Clinical Development Plan in collaboration with Clinical Operations.
  • Act as a key contact for Clinical Trial Teams regarding scientific and clinical development aspects of projects.
  • Ensure the review of clinical data, including protocol deviations.
