About the Job

Requirements

  • An M.D. or D.O. degree is required.
  • Applicants must provide experience evidence reflecting the privileges requested. Applicants who have just completed residency must provide their residency procedure log and a list of completed rotations, as applicable.
  • Applicants not applying directly out of residency must provide a quality profile from hospitals where they currently have privileges, showing clinical activity for the last 12 months, including procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications. They must demonstrate active involvement in inpatient services for at least 50 patients in the last 12 months.
  • If a hospital quality profile is unavailable, applicants must document clinic activity for the last 12 months and demonstrate active involvement in caring for 50 patients in clinical practice during that period.
  • Successful completion of an Internal Medicine residency program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association, or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is required; other residency programs may be considered through the credentialing eligibility waiver process.
  • Applicants must be certified in their primary practice area by the applicable specialty or subspecialty board of the ABMS, the AOA, or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Applicants who completed residency within the last five years may apply without board certification but must achieve certification within five years of residency completion unless the governing board waives the requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examinations; admit patients when applicable to the setting; evaluate, diagnose, and treat adolescent and adult patients with common and complex illnesses, diseases, and functional disorders; and provide consultative services.
  • Provide clinic-based internal medicine care, with telephone call rotated among department members at approximately one to two weeknights per month and one weekend every three months.
  • Optionally provide six weeks of hospital coverage per year.
  • Work as part of a provider team that includes a physician, an advanced practice provider, and a primary nurse.
  • Provide physician visits to nursing-home patients; advanced practice providers round on those patients regularly.

About the Company

Sanford Health

Nonprofit health system operating hospitals

Sanford Health is a large nonprofit health system that delivers hospital care, elder and post-acute services, and related health care through a network of hospitals, clinics, and senior care facilities across the Midwest. It operates by integrating multiple care settings into one system, supported by research and global health initiatives. Its model combines acute hospital care, long-term care, and post-acute services under a single organization, with a strong emphasis on philanthropy and mergers to expand reach and capabilities. The company differentiates itself through its breadth of services across the care continuum, extensive rural and regional presence, and a history of strategic mergers that create a full-spectrum care model rather than focusing on a single niche. Sanford Health’s goal is to provide comprehensive, accessible health care to communities, advance pediatric care and medical research, and extend health services through global clinics and partnerships.
