About the job

Requirements
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with physical systems involving robots, industrial automation equipment, mechatronic products, factory automation equipment, or mobile robots.
  • Experience analyzing logs and isolating faults in physical systems, and designing improvements through resolution.
  • Ability to document reproduction steps, root-cause hypotheses, response history, and improvement requests in a format clearly understood by engineering teams.
  • Experience with on-site deployment, testing, adjustment, recovery, stakeholder coordination, and compliance with safety procedures, or an equivalent practical, hands-on approach.
  • Ability to collaborate across hardware, software, integration, simulation, operations, and other teams, and translate field issues into technical challenges.
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Install, initially configure, and commission physical robots, obtain site acceptance, create checklists and recovery procedures, standardize deployment processes, and manage operations at deployment sites.
  • Diagnose and isolate software, network, sensor, actuator, power, mechanical, and environmental issues arising in the field, provide initial response, and help prevent recurrence.
  • Use ROS/ROS 2 logs, system logs, sensor logs, operation logs, error codes, and video recordings to document root causes, reproduction conditions, scope of impact, temporary countermeasures, and permanent corrective actions.
  • Provide the engineering team with specific feedback to improve quality, repairability, operability, user experience, and on-site safety.
  • Develop deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures, checklists, work standards, and workflows so the team can operate repeatably.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with ROS/ROS 2, bag/log analysis, state machines, remote monitoring, OTA, diagnostic tools, health checks, or anomaly detection.
  • Experience with root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action systems (FRACAS), mean time between failures/mean time to repair (MTBF/MTTR), maintainability design, quality improvement, failure classification, or recurrence-prevention processes.
  • Knowledge of motors, gearboxes, sensors, actuators, electrical systems, industrial networks, robotic arms, or material-handling equipment.
  • Experience with multi-robot operations, fleet management, field operations, customer-site deployments, or maintenance partner management.
  • Experience or qualifications in industrial safety, robot safety, on-site safety culture, risk assessment, or work standardization.

About the company

AI Robot Association is best understood as an open research association working on foundation models for robotics. Researchers and engineers build datasets, training systems, evaluation methods, and embodied artificial-intelligence software. Its initiative brings together motion data, vision-language-action research, model development, and humanoid-robot experimentation. Roles may span machine learning, robotics, data engineering, simulation, infrastructure, research operations, and partnerships. The entity has a limited public footprint, so the profile stays close to its official research and recruiting materials.

What believers are saying

  • On 2026-08-03, AIRoA released 5,000 hours of robot motion data and a foundation model.
  • On 2026-08-04, it consolidated at a 3,500 m² Heiwajima facility, signaling execution.
  • Its 2026-02-10 ICRA workshop and RSJ 2026 talks widen partner demand and visibility.

What critics are saying

  • AIRoA depends on public programs like NEDO and GENIAC, exposing it to budget cuts.
  • Open-data coordination among members can stall, while DeepMind and NVIDIA race ahead.
  • If members stop contributing data, AIRoA’s ecosystem model loses scale and relevance quickly.

What makes AI Robot Association unique

  • AIRoA launched in 2024 as Japan’s open robot-data consortium, not a single vendor.
  • It combines academia, industry, and METI-NEDO-backed projects around robot foundation models.
  • Its Heiwajima hub centralizes R&D and corporate functions across Tokyo, Miraikan, and Kyoto.
