Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • The employee must be able to communicate effectively with patients.
  • The employee must be able to lift, move, stoop, reach, carry materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds, and assist patients into wheelchairs using safe patient handling equipment.
  • The employee must be able to reach above shoulder level, stand, reach below knee level, kneel, squat, bend and twist at the waist, grasp with both hands, position and turn patients, and push or pull wheelchairs.
  • The employee must be able to lift, push, or pull 50 to 80 pounds for short durations.
  • The employee must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • The employee must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • The employee must be able to solve problems involving a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a warm welcome to patients, family members, visitors, and vendors upon arrival.
  • Operate the external transportation vehicle, or tram, to assist patient movement between parking areas and building entrances.
  • Assist with traffic flow into and out of the assigned area.
  • Anticipate customer needs and concerns, answer questions, and take appropriate action.
  • Locate, clean, and maintain an adequate supply of wheelchairs at the designated front entrance.
  • Assist patients out of vehicles and help place them into wheelchairs when necessary, using safe patient handling equipment according to policy and procedure.
  • Provide wayfinding services and escort patients and visitors to hospital locations and appropriate departments.
  • Inform patients, family members, visitors, and vendors about hospital services, features, amenities, and department locations.
  • Oversee assigned hospital waiting rooms, including visitor registration, communication with providers, comfort amenities, and a clean and orderly environment.
  • Support inpatient discharge by transporting patients and their personal belongings from patient rooms to private vehicles.
  • Follow up on customer concerns and complaints and assist with timely issue resolution and service recovery.
  • Research and provide information about hotels, local events, venues, transportation options, restaurants, area attractions, maps, and accommodations using computers and phones.
  • Contact community resources and other pertinent sources on behalf of families and provide information about WVU Hospitals and the Morgantown area.
  • Recognize signs of stress or personal trauma and offer support or referrals to hospital resources such as chaplains, social workers, or Family House.
  • Maintain patient and family confidentiality.
  • Participate in activities that improve the job.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, language, and demeanor.
  • Assist in maintaining the location and individual work area.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in a high-contact customer service position or equivalent setting with demonstrated above-standard performance.
