Requirements
  • Some high school coursework is required; completion of high school is an asset.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience or customer service experience is required.
  • Experience with money handling is an asset.
  • Experience with office administration is required.
  • Experience using word processing software such as Microsoft Word and spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel is required.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver's license, personal vehicle, required insurance, and a satisfactory current driver's abstract are required.
  • The ability to multitask in a fast-paced office setting, with attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills, is required.
  • The ability to lift or move 9 to 12 kilograms (20 to 25 pounds) is required.
  • Strong customer service, oral and written communication, interpersonal, listening, confidentiality, and conflict-resolution skills are required.
  • The ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry, is required.
  • The ability and willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army's mission and purpose in Canada is required.
  • The ability to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures is required.
Responsibilities
  • Attend training and orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Deliver kettles to zone locations before staff or volunteers arrive and deliver donations to a secure location after shifts.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient and remind staff and volunteers about proper kettle handling and duties.
  • Supervise, support, and assign staff and volunteers throughout the campaign.
  • Visit kettle locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and on time each week.
  • Remain at the kettle for the full shift until relieved and ensure the security of donations.
  • Respond to donor questions about Salvation Army ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker activities.
  • Oversee campaign operations, including staff and volunteer scheduling.
  • Participate in recruiting kettle worker staff and volunteers.
  • Provide orientation and performance management for kettle worker staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinate kettle staff and volunteer schedules and respond to emergency absences.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Deliver and pick up kettles from sites daily and handle emergency deliveries or pickups when needed.
  • Host at a kettle as required to provide coverage for breaks.
  • Ensure kettle locations have adequate literature and other supplies.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly timesheets.
  • Retrieve all equipment and supplies from kettle locations after the campaign.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
