Tencent launches free WorkBuddy education edition with 2,000 monthly credits for every teacher.

Tencent launches free WorkBuddy education edition with 2,000 monthly credits for every teacher. Published: October 19, 2026 Want to read in a language you're more familiar with? Tencent SSV's free WorkBuddy edition gives teachers 12 months of credits, 100-plus expert skills built with Peking University and Beijing Normal University, and five classroom tools. Tencent has launched a public-welfare education edition of WorkBuddy, its AI agent workspace, and opened it to teachers across China at no cost. The program is run by Tencent's Sustainable Social Value unit, known as Tencent SSV. Once an account is activated, each teacher receives 2,000 credits per month for 12 consecutive months. There are no restrictions by region or school level. Credits refill automatically on the first of each month, and teachers who run out can keep working with free models, so lesson preparation is not interrupted. The core of the edition is a set of AI teaching assistants. Tencent SSV and the WorkBuddy team worked with universities including Peking University and Beijing Normal University to turn education research into more than 100 callable expert skills, which are still being rolled out. They cover lesson design, courseware design, polishing demonstration lessons, tiered instruction for students at different levels, home-school communication and student mental health. Teachers find them under the Experts section of the app's experts, skills and connectors panel. WorkBuddy has also added five tools for classroom work: creative teaching, script-based classroom activities, courseware creation, animated demonstrations and material processing. According to Tencent, teachers can describe what they need in everyday language and get usable output, without writing detailed prompts. The edition is set to connect with more Tencent productivity tools, including Tencent Docs, the Lexiang knowledge base and the AI workspace ima. That would bring documents, resource libraries and collaborative editing directly into teachers' daily workflows. Individual teachers apply through the menu of Tencent SSV's official WeChat account by submitting their teacher identity information. Accounts are activated within three working days after approval. The move extends WorkBuddy from enterprise offices into schools. Recent updates have added third-party models such as StepFun's Step 5 preview and a path from prompts to WeChat Mini Program previews. Packaging education research as ready-made expert skills aims to give teachers specialist help for planning and parent communication without asking them to become prompt engineers.

China's Tencent detected unintended behaviours from AI agents.

China's Tencent detected unintended behaviours from AI agents. After a research report this week uncovered rogue AI agents in China that originated from a sandbox on Tencent Cloud. By Luz Ding and Newley Purnell, Bloomberg · 16 Oct 2026, 09:45 Image: Qilai Shen/Bloomberg Tencent Holdings said it identified unexpected behaviour from third-party AI models on its platform, after a research report this week uncovered rogue AI agents in China that originated from a sandbox on Tencent Cloud. The Shenzhen-based tech company said that the models were not from its own Hy artificial development team and it didn't find evidence of deliberate targeting or coordination. Surfaced by a research report from an international group of researchers, the rogue agents probed Alibaba Group Holding's online mapping service and sought to go around anti-bot protections. Tencent said the agents were part of evaluations of models created by third-party developers. "During these evaluations, some agents exhibited unintended web-browsing behaviour," Tencent wrote in a statement posted on X on Friday. "We take these findings seriously. We are strengthening network access controls and agent monitoring." The report published this week found that more than a dozen agents attempted to access protected IT systems in recent weeks. Most of the attempts were stopped while some circumvented anti-bot restrictions, but researchers found no evidence of access to private systems. The incident adds to growing concern about AI agents escaping their evaluation environments and carrying out actions unintended by human supervisors. OpenAI's models inadvertently hacked the Australian government this summer, leading to Canberra calling on executives from the US AI firm to answer questions and OpenAI pledging to help the country with cyberdefences. Rokid and Tencent Mobility bring voice ride-hailing to AI glasses via Agent-to-Agent link.

Rokid and Tencent Mobility bring voice ride-hailing to AI glasses via Agent-to-Agent link. Published: October 16, 2026 Want to read in a language you're more familiar with? Users say a destination and the glasses handle pickup points, fare comparison, booking and password-free payment, with car details shown in view while they wait. Rokid has launched ride-hailing on its AI glasses in partnership with Tencent Mobility, letting wearers book a car by voice without taking out a phone. Rokid describes it as the industry's first native ride-hailing service for AI glasses, a claim made by the company. Once the Tencent Mobility agent is connected, a user only needs to say where they want to go. The glasses then handle the full flow: understanding the request, suggesting pickup and drop-off points, checking nearby cars, estimating fares and comparing vehicle types, placing the order and paying the fare. While the user waits, the license plate, car details and estimated arrival time are shown in their field of view, with voice reminders. According to Chinese tech outlet Leikeji, Android and iOS users need to update the Rokid AI app to version 1.15 to use the feature. The integration works as a split between two agents. Rokid's glasses agent handles understanding the user, conversation and on-lens display. Tencent Mobility's agent provides the ride-hailing service. The two connect directly over the Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol. Tencent Mobility has packaged its ride-hailing functions for wearable devices as standard services: location suggestions, pickup point selection, nearby vehicle lookup, fare estimates and comparison, one-tap booking, live order status and password-free payment. The glasses call these as needed. Rokid argues the main benefit is at the curb. Instead of repeatedly checking a phone for the car's position, plate and arrival time, users keep that information in view, which can make it easier to find the car in crowded stations, malls or roadsides. The company also says voice booking lowers the barrier for older people, children and others less comfortable with smartphone apps. Rokid is clear that the glasses are not meant to replace the phone. For payment issues, changing the destination or cancelling an order, the phone remains the more reliable fallback. In the company's view, glasses should start requests, give live reminders and handle interaction with the surroundings, while the phone takes care of complex confirmations, payment and exceptions. The companies have not said which glasses models or cities are supported.

Screenshots reveal cancelled "Assassin's Creed Destiny" Game set in China.

Screenshots reveal cancelled "Assassin's Creed Destiny" Game set in China. Friday, October 16th 2026 One of the myriad projects Ubisoft scrapped in its recent restructuring, which has resulted in hundreds of layoffs and a reduction in scope of other games, was apparently an Assassin's Creed project called Assassin's Creed Destiny, which would have seen the franchise visit China in 205 BCE, around the time of the collapse of the Qin Dynasty, the shortest-lived dynasty in China's long history. According to a recent report by MP1st, the game was in development in collaboration with TiMi, a Tencent-owned game studio, but the studio announced a restructuring shortly after the 2025 prototype that recently surfaced, and the game was scrapped not long after that. In the leaked screenshots, which are sourced from the portfolios of artists associated with Assassin's Creed Destiny, there are intricate weapon designs, while an included video shows a female assassin hunting down a mysterious artifact housed in a besieged palace. As with other Assassin's Creed games, it was to feature historical figures, and one mentioned in the leaked game media is Xiang Yu, an ancient Chinese warlord that was besieging the palace and featured briefly in an early boss fight. Ubisoft and Tencent are still working on the mobile Assassin's Creed Jade, which will also take place in China, so it's possible the Destiny project could be revisited at a later date, depending on the success of Jade. It's also notable that Assassin's Creed Destiny was to feature a female protagonist, similar to Shadows and the upcoming Hexe game. It's clear that Ubisoft has been trying to iterate on the Assassin's Creed formula, perhaps to try to find a balance between what the series diehards like and a game that is capable of drawing in a new, younger audience.
