Requirements
  • Previous hospital experience with geriatric/adolescent and rehabilitation patients, or experience as recommended by the Director of Nursing.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant is required.
  • Knowledge of growth and development across the life span.
  • Certificate in Basic Life Support or Adult, Child and Infant CPR.
  • The schedule includes overnight hours from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and every other weekend.
Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living appropriate to their culture, age, and developmental level.
  • Assist patients with bathing, grooming, dressing, and undressing.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist or feed patients as needed.
  • Distribute water and other nourishment to patients.
  • Position and transfer patients.
  • Assist patients with ambulation.
  • Assist with toileting needs, including use of bedpan, urinal, and commode, and ostomy care.
  • Perform range-of-motion exercises and routine skin care.
  • Perform tasks and tests delegated by the licensed nurse, and report or record data as needed.
  • Take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration.
  • Measure and record intake and output.
  • Weigh patients with the appropriate scale as directed by the licensed nurse.
  • Apply anti-embolic stockings.
  • Assist with post-mortem care.
  • Perform advanced skills delegated by the licensed nurse when deemed competent, and report or record data as needed.
  • Perform fingerstick blood glucose monitoring.
  • Perform bladder scanning.
  • Collect urine and stool specimens.
  • Set up suction equipment.
  • Perform oral care and hygiene, including Yankauer suctioning.
Desired Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
