About the job

Requirements
  • Strong experience as a Staff Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Backend Engineer, Platform Engineer, or in a similar role.
  • Experience building backend services, distributed systems, developer platforms, or workload orchestration systems.
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous processing, queues, scheduling, retries, back pressure, and failure handling.
  • Comfort working across APIs, control planes, workers, databases, and observability systems.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in one or more backend languages, ideally Go.
  • Good judgment around trade-offs between reliability, latency, scale, cost, and developer experience.
  • Clear communication, strong ownership, and the ability to lead technical direction in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities
  • Build core systems behind the serverless platform, including workload execution, routing, scheduling, isolation, and scaling using the inference engine.
  • Enable developers to deploy models and run AI workloads without managing GPUs, servers, queues, or infrastructure, through a simple SDK interface.
  • Design and improve the control plane for serverless execution, including APIs, workers, lifecycle management, retries, and failure handling.
  • Work with infrastructure and machine-learning teams to improve workload startup time, GPU utilisation, model warm-up, caching, and placement.
  • Build observability that makes serverless workloads easy to monitor, debug, and operate globally at scale.
  • Lead technical design, mentor other engineers, and help define engineering standards for a new product area.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience building serverless platforms, job execution systems, container platforms, or compute orchestration systems.
  • Experience with GPU-backed workloads, AI/ML inference, model serving, batch processing, or high-performance computing.
  • Familiarity with vLLM, TensorRT, Triton, Kubernetes, Nomad, or Knative.
  • Experience improving workload performance through batching, autoscaling, model warm-up, caching, request routing, or queue management.
  • Experience with multi-tenant isolation, sandboxing, quotas, rate limits, resource accounting, or usage-based billing.

About the company

What believers are saying

  • Runware launched Serverless on October 1, 2026 at $0.63 per GPU-hour.
  • Runware reported 10 pods deployed and 160 available sites across regions in 2026.
  • Wix, Together.ai, Quora, OpenArt, Freepik, and Higgsfield AI validate demand today.

What critics are saying

  • Fal.ai, Replicate, and WaveSpeed compress pricing and latency differentiation throughout 2026.
  • Sonic Pods demand heavy capital; low utilization turns 2027 capacity into stranded assets.
  • Hyperscalers can bundle GPUs and hosting, shrinking Runware’s price edge by 2027.

What makes Runware unique

  • Runware’s Sonic Pods bundle 1,200 GPUs into 20-foot modular inference containers.
  • Runware serves 400,000-plus models through one API across image, video, audio, language.
  • Runware routes traffic across a distributed network, not single-purpose fixed data centers.

Runware launches serverless GPU platform with compute from $0.63 per hour

Runware has launched Runware Serverless, a GPU platform for running custom AI models, with pricing starting at $0.63 per GPU-hour — up to 50% less than typical hyperscaler rates. The platform runs on Sonic Pods, compact modular data centres that Runware designs and operates. Each pod fits around 1,200 GPUs into a 20-foot shipping container and takes an average of three weeks to manufacture. Runware Serverless supports image, video, audio, language and 3D AI workloads. Developers can deploy Python code or containers through Runware's SDK, CLI or API, whilst the platform handles scheduling, autoscaling and monitoring. The service offers NVIDIA GPUs including L40S, RTX PRO 6000, H100, H200, B200, B300 and GB300 NVL72 configurations. Billing is per-second, with options to reserve capacity or scale to zero when idle. Runware's platform is used by over one million developers.

Runware raises $50M to build portable data center pods for AI inference

Runware has launched the Sonic Inference Pod, a modular, transportable data centre designed to provide flexible AI compute capacity. The company believes distributed compute positioned closer to end users will win long-term over massive hyperscaler projects. The pods use closed-loop cooling rather than water and can be built in days, compared to months or years for traditional data centres. Runware can add capacity quickly by deploying new pods rather than expanding fixed facilities. The company currently has 10 pods deployed across the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, with 160 sites available. Runware raised $50 million in Series A funding in December to provide infrastructure for image generation. CEO Flaviu Radulescu acknowledged AI power consumption will increase regardless of supplier, but emphasised the pods avoid transmission losses and new grid capacity requirements.

Runware raises $50M Series A for real-time image and video generation API

Runware, a developer platform for real-time image, video and audio generation, has raised $50 million in a Series A round led by Dawn Capital, with participation from Insight Partners and a16z Speedrun. Founded in 2023 by Flaviu Radulesc and Ioana Hreninciuc, Runware enables developers to integrate its API into applications to generate media assets through a single interface, eliminating the need for separate infrastructure or integrations. The platform uses custom AI inference infrastructure for open-source models and provides immediate access to newly released models. The company has powered over 5 billion creations for more than 100,000 developers since launch. Dawn Capital Partner Shamillah Bankiya is joining Runware's board following the investment.
