Netflix walks away from Xbox licensing deal after Microsoft asks $800M versus $500M offer

Netflix reportedly walked away from a deal for seven years of exclusive film and TV rights to Microsoft's Xbox game library, which includes Halo and Gears of War. Puck News reported that Netflix first offered $500 million, but Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma asked for $800 million. Netflix's chief financial officer, Spencer Neumann, rejected the counter as too expensive. The offer was pulled after a mid-October restructuring that cut about 1,000 jobs and saw content chief Bela Bajaria leave. Former Disney executive Peter Rice replaced her. Xbox is now pursuing several smaller deals. Amazon gets "Fallout" Season 3, Paramount Pictures gets a "Call of Duty" movie, and Netflix keeps "Gears of War" and "Diablo." Netflix's third-quarter revenue rose 12% to $12.9 billion, but it cut its 2026 advertising forecast from $3 billion to $2.7 billion.

Microsoft trims 2026 capex forecast to $170B from $175B as AI capacity is delayed

Microsoft trimmed its capital expenditure forecast for the 2026 calendar year to $170 billion from $175 billion, a rare cut as other tech giants keep raising AI spending. Chief financial officer Amy Hood said on Wednesday's fiscal first-quarter earnings call that some "GPU-as-a-Service contracts" with third-party providers have slipped to the second half of the fiscal year. She expects capex to accelerate then, as the delayed capacity arrives. Revenue rose 19% to $92.3 billion in the quarter ending September 30. Azure cloud revenue climbed 48% to more than $33 billion, beating Wall Street expectations. Shares rose about 3% in after-hours trading.
