About the company

Swarm Aero designs and builds large-scale autonomous UAV swarms along with the Legion command-and-control software that coordinates many drones. Its aircraft use mass-producible composite airframes (Group 5) intended to enable thousands of drones to operate together, even where communications are limited, mainly for U.S. military use. Legion handles distributed autonomy, tasking, and swarm coordination to execute complex missions. The goal is to provide a scalable, affordable air-power option by accelerating high-rate manufacturing as a successor to platforms like the MQ-9 Reaper.

What believers are saying

  • August 10, 2026 AFRL contracts exceeded $10 million for manufacturing R&D and parts.
  • March 11, 2026 Series A raised $35 million, expanding hiring and production capacity.
  • September 2026 Gamera debut aligned Swarm with the Air Force Massed Modular Aircraft program.

What critics are saying

  • Fayetteville opponents challenged Swarm’s license in April 2026, risking future plant disruption.
  • AFRL funds manufacturing, so Air Force demand still dominates revenue concentration.
  • A failed 2027 Gamera first flight would cripple credibility, funding, and Pentagon adoption.

What makes Swarm Aero unique

  • Swarm Aero’s June 30, 2026 FLEX demo unified seven platforms under one operator.
  • Its Legion software integrates third-party autonomy fast, bringing new platforms online within hours.
  • Gamera targets Reaper-class mass production, pairing airframe manufacturability with swarm command software.

Swarm Aero unveils Gamera strike drone with 9,000-mile range at 10x lower cost than legacy platforms

Swarm Aero has unveiled Gamera, a new unmanned aircraft system designed for long-range strike missions at significantly reduced cost. The aircraft features a 72-foot wingspan and an unrefuelled range of 9,000 nautical miles. Gamera can carry over 2,800 pounds of payload and is the first UAS designed to deploy bomber-class missiles such as LRASM and JASSM-ER. The company claims it delivers comparable strike effects at one-tenth the cost-per-effect of existing platforms. Swarm has been developing Gamera since the company's founding in 2022, aligning with the US Air Force's Massed Modular Aircraft programme requirements. The aircraft is mass-producible using a novel manufacturing approach and can operate in swarms using Swarm's Legion command-and-control software.
