Disney+ to stream upcoming Super Bowl.

Disney+ to stream upcoming Super Bowl. 8 hours ago 54 Disney announced Wednesday that its streaming service Disney+ will air the upcoming Super Bowl in February. The 2027 championship game, as well as two Monday Night Football games leading up to the Super Bowl, will be available to all Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. Disney had previously announced that its ESPN sports division would produce the Super Bowl in 2027 for the first time ever. The game will air on ESPN and Disney's broadcast network, ABC. Interest in the upcoming Super Bowl is already high. Disney said on its most recent earnings call that ad spots for the game are already sold out, the earliest sellout in Super Bowl history, according to a press release. The announcement is the latest move in Disney's efforts to expand its live sports streaming offerings. The media company last year launched a standalone ESPN streaming service, bringing the content outside the cable bundle. In August, Disney announced that Formula E - the open-wheel racing championship for electric cars - will be available to Disney+ subscribers beginning Dec. 18. Other streamers are also using live sports to bolster their portfolios. CNBC reported last week that Alphabet's YouTube is actively searching for additional live sports rights. YouTube already pays roughly $2 billion annually for the rights to "NFL Sunday Ticket," which will last until the end of the 2029-30 season. Netflix will air five NFL games during the 2026-27 season. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said in a CNBC interview last month that the company would be open to acquiring the rights to international NFL games if they become available.

Disney's 'Capturing Life, Creating Character' exhibition is going on the road.

Disney's 'Capturing Life, Creating Character' exhibition is going on the road. Animation is an artistic medium unique among its proverbial contemporaries in that it's an entirely manual creation, perhaps our purest expression of human creativity. Whether drawn by hand or crafted on a computer, animation is the capture of images not physical, but imagined, an art form not bound by the restrictions of the natural world. That said, there's still obvious inspiration taken from the physical world while crafting settings and stories entirely handmade. Capturing Life, Creating Character: The Art of Live-Action Reference celebrates such inspiration, and the exhibition will debut at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History next month. 'Capturing Life, Creating Character' exhibit coming to Fort Worth. Curated by The Walt Disney Archives, the experience includes "photographs, documents, objects, videos, interactive pieces, photo opportunities, as well as an audio guide" that will help guests "discover how Disney animators use live-action performers, props, and sets as visual references to bring the movement and expressions of some iconic characters and scenes to life." There will also be an "interactive experience using toy dolls" to demonstrate how certain movements interact with fabric and hair. Visitors will also see how select real-world references translated to animated scenes, "offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at these classic films." The exhibit will run at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History from November 14, 2026, through February 14, 2027. It will be displayed in the Havener Gallery. Access will be included with admission. Ticket prices are as follows: * $16 for adults * $14 for seniors * $12 for juniors (ages 3-11) * $0 for children under two years old More about the experience. "Today, the Walt Disney Archives is proud to bring its newest exhibition to Fort Worth, celebrating the pioneering use of character reference that helped bring Snow White and countless beloved films to life, and continues to inspire Disney animation to this day," Jesse Cannady, Senior Manager of Exhibitions & Loans at Walt Disney Archives, said of Capturing Life, Creating Character, per D23. "Together with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, we look forward to sparking curiosity and imagination in visitors of all ages." Capturing Life, Creating Character: The Art of Live-Action Reference debuted in August as part of the festivities surrounding D23. It was accessible at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center. Judge skeptical of FCC's move to scrutinize ABC station licenses.

Judge skeptical of FCC's move to scrutinize ABC station licenses. A federal judge in D.C. on Tuesday declined to immediately rule on whether the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should be stopped from conducting an early review of broadcast licenses belonging to a handful of local ABC stations across the country. But U.S. District Judge Loren Alikhan appeared skeptical from the bench of the administration's justification for initiating the process. "What is it that made this so different that you needed to call for an early license renewal?" Alikhan asked a Justice Department lawyer during Tuesday's two-hour hearing, getting to the heart of the administration's efforts to scrutinize the Disney-owned broadcaster. BestReviews is reader-supported and may earn an affiliate commission. The Trump administration contends that the FCC's early renewal process, an unprecedented move for a media regulator to take against one of the nation's largest broadcast networks, was necessary as part of the department's probe into Disney's diversity, equity and inclusion hiring practices. "The commission has an obligation to pursue these types of investigations," Dimitar Georgiev, an attorney for the DOJ, said, framing it as a "core function" of the Brendan Carr-led agency. ABC sued the FCC in August, accusing the Trump administration of embarking on a "retaliatory campaign" to punish the network for unfavorable coverage and commentary about the Trump administration. The sprawling media company that encompasses ABC News, ESPN and a massive movie studio is seeking a preliminary injunction that would block the early renewal process from moving forward. "There's no doubt that this conduct is unconstitutional," ABC attorney Beth Wilkinson said, likening possible license revocation to what she called the "corporate death penalty." Wilkinson argued on-air employees at ABC on popular shows like "The View" have been "chilled" by the FCC's move to scrutinize the network's broadcast licenses and caused the company immediate and irreparable harm that is impacting its coverage of the coming midterm elections. "Our editorial decisions are being affected right now before the election," she said, later citing ABC's decision to pull a late-night interview with Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico off the air and put it on YouTube instead. DOJ lawyers attempted to convince the judge that ABC's lawsuit should be dismissed, arguing the district court does not have jurisdiction over the case. Georgiev pointed to a provision in the Communications Act that gives the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals authority to review license applications that are denied by the FCC, arguing that halting the process would "sidestep" Congress. But Wilkinson contended that would leave Disney with no recourse to pursue its First Amendment retaliation claims if the licenses are not revoked. "Our concern is we are chilled," Wilkinson added. "That kind of immediate harm cannot be rectified by the Court of Appeals." The Trump administration has also accused Disney of flouting its obligations that come with accessing public airwaves. Tuesday's court proceeding was the latest episode in months of tensions between President Trump's FCC and the Disney-owned broadcast network. Carr, an ally of Trump, has cast doubt on the agency's independence and defended the president's attacks on mainstream media outlets. He has repeatedly criticized ABC over its news coverage and called for the firing of the network's top comedian, Jimmy Kimmel, over jokes he made about the Republican response to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During his time as FCC chair, Carr has questioned whether late-night and daytime talk programs like Kimmel's and ABC's "The View" are so-called "bona fide" news programs and should be able to use public airwaves. Licenses for the local stations - in major markets like New York, Los Angeles and Houston - were not scheduled to be up for renewal until between 2028 and 2031. ABC described that inquiry as "pretextual" and rejected the administration's claim that it has not fully cooperated with demands for information. The judge did not issue a ruling from the bench, instead asking the Trump administration to answer in writing what other mechanisms it could use to compel ABC's cooperation with its probe.
