Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee a portfolio of accounts, including financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, planning, and compliance.
  • Apply financial expertise to sponsored research projects and provide direction to faculty and direct staff in making informed, strategic decisions.
  • Provide financial expertise in support of faculty and administrative staff for sponsored and non-sponsored funding sources, including grants, contracts, subawards, gifts, and endowments.
  • Perform complex modeling for principal investigators' portfolios of funds to develop long- and short-term resource and spending plans.
  • Create and update financial plans and financial reports.
  • Cultivate working partnerships and communication with faculty, principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Projects, Sponsored Projects Financial Administration, Yale Center for Clinical Investigation, and departmental leadership.
  • Manage work activities to ensure customer service, financial reporting, and compliance with accounting principles, sponsor requirements, and Yale policies and procedures.
  • Extract, consolidate, and analyze data from multiple sources to communicate budgets, actuals, and forecasts.
  • Perform assigned aspects of the monthly financial review checklist and implement corrective actions identified through the review.
  • Present financial information and recommendations through data analysis and reporting for developing and maintaining large, complex portfolios.
  • Identify and influence strategic opportunities within the portfolio and communicate them to stakeholders.
  • Research issues, evaluate situations, identify relevant policies and guidance, and propose recommendations or solutions.
  • Manage financial analysis and budget activities involving multiple budgets, funding levels, budget periods and end dates, overhead rates, allowable-cost policies, and sponsor funding changes.
  • Monitor and certify policy adherence for financial activity within the portfolio.
  • Advise faculty and clients on applicable financial policies.
  • Maintain the fiscal integrity of the portfolio and department.
  • Review and approve expenditures for compliance with sponsor and Yale policies and regulations, ensuring adequate documentation supports charges to sponsored awards.
  • Plan and prioritize actions and provide direction across multiple awards and portfolios.
  • Provide oversight, counsel, and expertise with significant business-unit impact.
  • Provide strategic direction in account management and collaboration with account holders.
  • Review and interpret sponsor documents, including applications, award notices, and terms and conditions.
  • Manage assigned sponsored awards and ensure timely filing of sponsor documents, including submissions, modifications, extensions, and post-award financial and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with business offices, central offices, external institutions, and sponsoring agencies to manage sponsor funds properly.
  • Identify and propose alternatives for effort allocation, spending-pattern adjustments, and allocation methodologies based on faculty or client funding and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with grants and contract administration is preferred.
  • Experience using Workday Financials and/or the Yale Budgeting Tool, as well as other university financial tools, reports, and programs, is preferred.
  • Experience as an accountant or financial professional is preferred.
  • Experience or interest in mentoring and advising staff is preferred.
