Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- A valid state Motor Vehicle Operator's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
- Meter Technician I requires one year of field service or equivalent related experience involving customer service.
- Meter Technician II requires experience providing exceptional customer service.
- Meter Technician II requires one year of meter reading or equivalent related experience involving customer service.
- Meter Technician II must possess or obtain a Confined Space Entry Certification within six months of employment.
- Meter Technician II must possess or obtain an OSHA 10 Certification within six months of employment.
- Knowledge of municipal water system operations is required.
- Knowledge of safety procedures for confined space is required.
- Effective communication and customer service skills are required.
- Skill in the safe operation of motor vehicles is required.
- The ability to accurately read and record data from meter dials is required.
- The ability to read maps and follow a prescribed route and schedule is required.
- The ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately is required.
- The ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and water pumps is required.
- The ability to work independently and follow direction is required.
- The ability to operate a meter reading data collection device and customer information system is required.
Responsibilities
- Read water meters on an assigned route and record data in handheld computers to provide information for utility billing or other related action.
- Inspect, maintain, and replace water meters, meter wells, and associated equipment.
- Respond to customer service requests and handle complaints.
