Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least two years of cell-based research technical experience performing routine and specialized technical procedures, or three years of relevant experience under the core qualifications.
  • Experience establishing, maintaining, expanding, and stocking immortalized cells, primary cells, tissue slices, stem cells, and organoids.
  • Experience developing transient and stable transgene, gene-edited, and genome-edited cell populations and lines.
  • Experience culturing embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells.
  • Knowledge of cancer biology, molecular biology procedures, general laboratory operations, cell culture, and animal-related techniques.
  • Proficiency with general and specialized data analysis software, databases, online webforms, cloud-based tools, and laboratory information systems.
  • Ability to perform sterile technique, quality control, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, inventory control, and accurate laboratory documentation.
  • Ability to analyze research data, interpret experimental outcomes, troubleshoot technical and scientific problems, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team, organize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Execute complex research protocols within a revenue-generating shared resource core facility.
  • Manage new projects from initiation to completion with minimal supervision and interact professionally with investigators, trainees, staff, and other users.
  • Operate sophisticated scientific equipment and assist with developing, testing, and implementing new procedures, applications, services, platforms, and technologies.
  • Train shared-resource staff and users on procedures and applications.
  • Evaluate supplies and reagents, place orders, verify receipts, manage inventory, and support laboratory equipment quality assurance, quality control, maintenance, and minor repairs.
  • Establish, maintain, expand, and stock cell cultures, including immortalized cells, primary cells, tissue slices, stem cells, and organoids.
  • Design, evaluate, and implement cell-culture methods and protocols, including thawing, freezing, passaging, transfecting, and counting cells.
  • Create transient and stable transgene, gene-edited, and genome-edited cell populations and lines, including embryonic stem cell work for transgenic mouse generation.
  • Prepare media, buffers, and solutions; isolate cells such as peripheral blood mononuclear cells from human- or animal-derived primary samples; and maintain cell banks.
  • Analyze research data, prepare reports, maintain databases, batch records, laboratory notebooks, and other documentation, and manage internal communications.
  • Develop, adapt, and implement new services and technologies related to molecular biology, functional genomics, cell culture, imaging, and preclinical mouse models.
  • Monitor timelines, study and project performance, quality, turnaround time, budgets, service fees, billing, customer requests, samples, and inventory.
  • Assist with imaging protocols, animal preparation, model generation, experimental designs, treatments, histopathological analysis, genotyping, compound administration, rodent health observations, diagnostic sample collection, necropsy, tissue and organ harvest, and rodent surgical procedures.
  • Plan daily workloads, distribute and balance tasks, schedule coverage, adjust priorities, and ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Support lab management, ensure equipment is operated and maintained according to manufacturer instructions, and ensure supplies are adequate.
  • Adhere to University and unit policies and procedures, safeguard University assets, complete required training, and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with cell imaging (microscopy) and flow cytometry techniques.
