CMIA 2026 concluded with new commitments from global companies.

CMIA 2026 concluded with new commitments from global companies. By ZHAN CHEN | Sep 24,2026 Chongqing - The 20th Meeting of the Chongqing Mayor's International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA) concluded on September 23, with global leaders sharing insights on technology and industry, while companies including AT&S, Corning and Adient announced new cooperation outcomes in Chongqing. The two-day meeting gathered 32 advisory companies from 11 countries, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Singapore, France, Japan and Switzerland. The members include Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders across sectors. Three global automotive suppliers - Aumovio, Lear Corporation and Vibracoustic - joined the council this year as new members, strengthening ties between Chongqing and leading companies in the intelligent connected new energy vehicle sector and electronic information industries. The 20th Meeting of the Chongqing Mayor's International Economic Advisory Council was held on September 22-23, 2026. (Photo/Luo Huxin) At the keynote meeting, 20 advisors drew on their companies' global experience and their understanding of Chongqing's industrial strengths to offer suggestions on advancing technology cooperation. Their recommendations included building stronger platforms for cross-border research, improving mechanisms for technology commercialization, and creating more opportunities for global companies to participate in Chongqing's innovation-driven development. The advisors highlighted that technological innovation increasingly depends on global collaboration, open networks, movement of knowledge and resources across borders. They suggested that Chongqing further develop international innovation cooperation platforms, and establish a global service system to support the overseas expansion of Chongqing-made vehicles. They also emphasized the importance of connecting innovation resources with real-world applications. Suggestions included accelerating the adoption of industrial AI in key sectors, exploring new models combining AI with smart city development, and creating platforms that help transform emerging technologies into commercial applications. Beyond strategic discussions, the meeting also generated concrete cooperation outcomes between global companies and Chongqing. AT&S plans to invest tens of millions of euros to expand its Chongqing factory, while Corning will increase investment in the city by upgrading production lines and expanding its local technology center. Adient will introduce advanced technologies, including automated sewing, AI-powered visual inspection and robotics applications, with plans to use Chongqing as an important base for scaling up innovation in research and manufacturing. Moreover, the meeting also featured, for the first time, a dedicated exhibition showcasing Chongqing's latest scientific and technological achievements. Covering areas such as intelligent connected new energy vehicles, advanced equipment manufacturing, low-altitude economy and biomedicine, the exhibition provided a platform for global companies to connect with local innovation enterprises. Over the past two decades, CMIA has become an important bridge connecting Chongqing with global companies and expertise. Through continued dialogue and cooperation, the city aims to attract more international innovation resources and strengthen its role in global industrial and technology networks.

Corning (NYSE:GLW) trading down 3.4% - Here's what happened. Posted by Don Miller on Sep 23rd, 2026 Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW - Get Free Report)'s share price dropped 3.4% during trading on Wednesday. The company traded as low as $153.60 and last traded at $154.3310. 5,514,451 shares changed hands during mid-day trading, a decline of 55% from the average daily volume of 12,376,492 shares. The stock had previously closed at $159.69. Key stories impacting Corning. Here are the key news stories impacting Corning this week: * Corning is positioned to benefit from accelerating AI-related demand for optical fiber and connectivity. Analysts argue that data-center expansion, rising bandwidth requirements and the company's specialized fiber products could justify its premium valuation. * Meta's planned Petal subsea cable linking the United States and France highlights the scale of future optical-network investment and reinforces Corning's role as a supplier to AI-driven bandwidth infrastructure. * Corning, Qualcomm and Lumentum are preparing a high-density optical die-to-die interconnect demonstration for ECOC 2026. The technology targets AI data centers requiring greater bandwidth, lower latency and improved power efficiency, potentially expanding Corning's addressable market. * The broader AI-optics trade is showing signs of investor selectivity: Lumentum rose sharply while Corning's performance was comparatively muted. This suggests investors may be demanding clearer evidence that Corning's AI exposure will translate into near-term earnings growth. * Pomerantz LLP is investigating potential claims on behalf of Corning investors. The announcement does not establish wrongdoing, but it creates a legal and headline overhang that can pressure the stock and increase short-term volatility. Wall Street analysts forecast growth. ECOC: Lumentum, Qualcomm and Corning push optical D2D.

ECOC: Lumentum, Qualcomm and Corning push optical D2D. Lumentum, Qualcomm Technologies and Corning demonstrate a high-density 1060 nm VCSEL optical D2D architecture at ECOC 2026, targeting AI scale-up connectivity over tens of meters. Lumentum, Qualcomm Technologies and Corning are demonstrating a high-density optical die-to-die (D2D) interconnect at ECOC 2026 that extends chip-level connectivity over multimode fiber for distances of tens of meters. The board-level proof of concept combines Qualcomm Technologies' D2D interface IP subsystem, Lumentum's 1060 nm VCSEL optical engine and Corning's high-density multimode fiber connectivity. The proof of concept uses massively parallel optical channels operating at 32 Gbps NRZ. The companies say the architecture supports approximately 1 Tbps/mm of shoreline bandwidth density today, with a path toward approximately 4 Tbps/mm. Lumentum's optical engine provides approximately 10 Tbps of aggregate transmit and receive capacity. | - 1060 nm VCSEL optical engine - 32 Gbps NRZ channels - ~10 Tbps aggregate Tx/Rx - ~1 Tbps/mm today; path toward ~4 Tbps/mm - Tens-of-meters multimode reach - Target: AI Scale-Up, UCIe, NPO and CPO | Analysis. The ECOC demonstration evolves Lumentum's earlier 1060 nm VCSEL work by adding Qualcomm Technologies' D2D interface technology and Corning's physical fiber connectivity. The massively parallel architecture shifts engineering emphasis toward VCSEL-array density, photodetector density, optical packaging and fiber connectivity. The demonstration is a proof of concept rather than a production product announcement. The companies have not disclosed a commercialization schedule for the joint architecture.
