Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain understanding of the assigned channel, including customers, users, business processes, operational needs, pain points, and strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the primary product representative and advocate for the assigned channel's digital experience.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and executive management to understand priorities and support roadmap decisions.
  • Translate channel strategies, customer needs, and operational challenges into product opportunities and prioritized initiatives.
  • Evaluate opportunities based on customer impact, strategic alignment, adoption potential, operational value, effort, risk, dependencies, and expected outcomes.
  • Maintain and refine a channel-level roadmap covering major initiatives, experience improvements, capability gaps, and cross-application dependencies.
  • Ensure cohesive customer experiences across multiple applications, systems, and operational teams.
  • Build relationships across channel leadership, Commercial, Operations, Sales, Customer Service, Marketing, Finance, Technology, and other functions.
  • Facilitate discussions, clarify tradeoffs, contribute to prioritization decisions, and communicate roadmap decisions and initiative status.
  • Present recommendations, analysis, options, dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs to executive management.
  • Escalate unresolved cross-channel, cross-application, or resource conflicts to the executive steering committee through Product leadership.
  • Partner with Portfolio Product Owners for BSNSports.com, My Team Shop, Sideline Stores, Team Art Locker, and other platforms.
  • Communicate channel needs, desired outcomes, customer problems, priorities, and success measures to application-aligned Product Owners.
  • Coordinate initiatives across multiple products, applications, or delivery teams and participate in cross-portfolio planning.
  • Conduct discovery with customers, users, and frontline employees to identify unmet needs, pain points, experience gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Use interviews, observation, surveys, journey mapping, usability testing, feedback sessions, support data, and analytics to gather insights.
  • Validate proposed solutions against meaningful customer or operational problems before significant development investment.
  • Partner with User Experience, research, analytics, and business teams to develop customer journeys, personas, experience maps, and problem statements.
  • Maintain a repository of customer insights, feedback themes, experience gaps, and validated opportunities.
  • Lead assigned initiatives from concept through discovery, prioritization, approval, delivery, launch, and adoption.
  • Define business problems, target users, desired outcomes, scope, success measures, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and constraints.
  • Partner with Business Analysts, User Experience, Portfolio Product Owners, Architecture, Engineering, and Delivery teams to establish requirements and execution readiness.
  • Participate in discovery, solution definition, requirements reviews, roadmap planning, user acceptance testing, launch readiness, and post-launch evaluation.
  • Review proposed solutions to confirm they address channel needs and preserve the desired customer experience.
  • Support creation and approval of epics, business requirements, user journeys, business rules, acceptance criteria, and measurable outcomes.
  • Coordinate operational processes, policies, support models, and customer-facing experiences for launch.
  • Identify and escalate risks, dependencies, decision gaps, and adoption barriers.
  • Partner with Delivery and Engineering teams to understand schedules, constraints, and risks without owning engineering delivery dates or daily development execution.
  • Create, maintain, and prioritize a channel-level backlog of strategic initiatives, enhancements, defects, technical improvements, operational efficiencies, usability improvements, analytics needs, process improvements, and stakeholder requests.
  • Refine, retire, combine, or deprioritize backlog items based on customer feedback, performance data, implementation learnings, and changing priorities.
  • Ensure backlog items contain context, desired outcomes, customer impact, priority rationale, and acceptance expectations.
  • Define success measures and analytics requirements for initiatives and feature enhancements.
  • Monitor revenue influence, conversion rates, adoption, feature utilization, customer satisfaction, Net Promoter Score, customer feedback, journey completion, defect and support volumes, operational efficiency, cycle time, feature performance, and release outcomes.
  • Develop dashboards, scorecards, or performance summaries for channel experience and product outcomes.
  • Compare actual results with expected outcomes and recommend follow-up improvements.
  • Develop adoption strategies for new capabilities, features, and experience changes.
  • Partner with Commercial, Sales, Marketing, Training, Customer Service, and Operations teams to prepare for launch.
  • Help define communications, training materials, enablement plans, support resources, FAQs, and launch messaging.
  • Coordinate pilot programs, phased launches, early-adopter feedback, and readiness reviews.
  • Track adoption, utilization, customer response, operational impact, and support needs after launch.
  • Investigate low adoption or deficient performance and lead corrective-action planning.
  • Recommend adjustments to product experience, communications, training, processes, or rollout strategy based on post-launch results.
  • Ensure delivered capabilities transition into an effective ongoing operating and support model.
  • Lead through influence in a matrixed organization without direct authority over business, technology, or delivery teams.
  • Create stakeholder alignment, facilitate meetings and decision sessions, and communicate complex product and technology topics in clear business language.
  • Contribute to the product operating model, governance processes, and product management practices.
  • Share insights and reusable practices across Club, Collegiate, and Institutional channel teams.

The new role is a key one given the company's value and impact: In 2024, Varsity Brands was acquired by New York-based global investment firm KKR in a reported $4.75 billion deal. Mehta will oversee Varsity Brands' product and technology strategies, building digital platforms, data-driven experiences, and secure systems designed to grow with the enterprise, the company said. His teams will concentrate on delivering intuitive, high-impact products that simplify how teams, coaches, athletes, and employees utilize a wide range of technology-driven offerings.
