Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Director of Student Services or Assistant or Associate Dean in student services at an Osteopathic or Allopathic Medical College.
  • Experience with software applications and student information systems, especially applications for admissions, recruitment, enrollment management, financial aid, and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to distill complex data and information requirements from a broad range of constituents.
  • Ability to identify major issues and trends in health professions education that may impact OCOM.
  • Knowledge of registration policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Knowledge of student federal and private loans and scholarship policies and processes.
  • Knowledge of student disability and accommodations policies and processes.
  • Knowledge of learning specialist support mechanisms, policies, and processes.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health policies and processes.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum oversight, manage multiple projects, deliver accurate results, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments and responsibilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, administration, and the public.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, oversee, organize, and direct OCOM’s student services departments and associated programs and activities.
  • Supervise assigned staff and directly supervise the Directors of Student Affairs, Admissions, Financial Aid, Mental Health Counselors, and Registrar.
  • Develop a unified vision for student services across the enrollment continuum from admissions through graduation and beyond.
  • Develop communication, data-sharing, and program-integration processes across Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, Learning Specialists, and Behavioral Health.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Director of Admissions on analysis of admissions and enrollment data and development of recruitment and admissions strategies.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Director of Student Affairs and the Office of Student Affairs, including Student Life, Career Counseling, Student Travel, Event Planning, and Alumni Affairs.
  • Provide oversight and direction for Honor Code and Student Professionalism activities, including policies, educational sessions, investigations, and sanctions.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Registrar for registration, student records, degree and enrollment verifications, transcripts, reporting, graduation requirements, and FERPA compliance.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Director of Financial Aid for financial-aid applications, eligibility verification, federal compliance, student information systems, and scholarship programs.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the Behavioral Health Specialist for individualized behavioral health services for students.
  • Develop and implement student-services policies, procedures, and practices that promote student co-curricular learning.
  • Oversee student health-insurance policies and procedures, student programs, services, events, and the student-services budget.
  • Promote student success and retention through mentorship and guidance.
  • Use an analytical, empirical, and data-driven approach to problem-solving and decision-making and facilitate a culture of evidence.
  • Participate as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team and on committees monitoring student progress and success.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority for Clery Act crime reporting.
  • Serve as the University 504/ADA liaison for OCOM.
  • Support approved policies and ensure compliance with federal, state, university, college, and outside-agency rules and regulations.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Coach, guide, mentor, and provide professional-development opportunities for the student-services team.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints; and resolve problems.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
