Requirements
  • At least 6 years of hands-on experience in data center network engineering, electrical power systems, or rack-level infrastructure integration.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent training and on-the-job experience.
  • Deep working knowledge of rack-level networking, including switching, VLANs, and network configuration across varied customer topologies.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution at the rack level, including power distribution units, power shelves, redundancy architectures, and power sequencing.
  • Ability to configure rack-level infrastructure and integrate new hardware into existing data center environments using top-of-rack switch command-line interfaces, SSH or serial console access, Wireshark, PDU management consoles, and NetBox or equivalent DCIM tooling.
  • Experience designing and executing installation and validation procedures, including checklist creation and sign-off.
  • Ability to debug rack-level issues spanning power, thermal, mechanical, and networking domains.
  • Ability to communicate technical requirements clearly to engineering teams and data center operations stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn quickly and ramp in a fast-moving, early-stage product environment.
  • Willingness to travel periodically for customer site visits, initial installations, and deployment validation.
Responsibilities
  • Design and validate electrical power integration, including power distribution units, power shelves, redundancy architectures, and power sequencing.
  • Build and validate complete rack configurations in the company lab, including power distribution units, power shelves, top-of-rack switches, servers, and Karman hardware, with primary focus on power system design and validation.
  • Design and own installation checklists and procedures for electrical power integration at customer sites.
  • Execute installation checklists and sign off on electrical power integration during initial customer deployments.
  • Debug rack-level issues spanning power, thermal, and mechanical domains in lab validation and at customer sites.
  • Support rack-level network connectivity during installation by applying VLAN assignments and switch port configurations to customer-provided specifications.
  • Coordinate with customer network engineering teams to align power integration work with existing network topologies and requirements.
  • Lead customer-facing technical calls and on-site visits with data center operations teams to gather electrical power integration requirements.
  • Create and maintain integration artifacts, including installation checklists, power validation checklists, configuration guides, KPI trackers, and after-action reports.
  • Support the TechOps team with electrical power expertise for escalated production incidents tied to initial installation.
  • Build repeatable Application Engineering processes, templates, and documentation using an AI-first approach.
  • Translate field integration learnings from customer deployments into product improvements for core engineering.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24x7 customer support.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with out-of-band management interfaces such as IPMI, Redfish, and iDRAC for rack equipment configuration and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with power quality requirements, power sequencing, and electrical considerations specific to data center environments.
  • Understanding of thermal and mechanical integration considerations at the rack level.
  • Prior experience creating and owning field installation procedures or technician-facing documentation.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing or field-deployment engineering role.

Utilidata, a leader in embedded AI for power infrastructure, announced today that it has secured an additional $40 million in Series C funding. The round was led by existing investor Renown Capital Partners with participation from Keyframe Capital, completing the Series C at $100 million. The extension marks the second and final close of Utilidata's Series C financing, following the company's initial $60.3 million round led by Renown Capital in April 2025, with participation from Keyframe Capital, Quanta Services, and NVIDIA. The funding will strengthen Utilidata's position to scale commercialization with hyperscalers and the data center market. The company's power orchestration platform, Karman, was developed in partnership with NVIDIA, and unlocks stranded capacity with real-time visibility and control of power utilization. Built on a custom NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano module, Karman is designed to be embedded at the rack level of data centers to manage rack power in real time, providing operators with high-speed visibility of power utilization. "The AI infrastructure buildout is one of the defining themes of this decade, but power is a fundamental limitation," said James McIntyre, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Renown Capital Partners. Interconnection queues stretch years and the increasing density of GPU compute creates power quality challenges that can push instability back onto the grid. The industry needs solutions that intelligently orchestrate power to maximize the performance of existing infrastructure, unlock stranded capacity, and enable denser deployments without causing issues on the grid. Karman smooths power fluctuations, reducing negative grid impacts that pose regulatory risks to data center interconnection and operations outlined in the recent guidelines from North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). The Series C extension comes ahead of Utilidata's first commercial deployment with NexGen Cloud, which will go live in Montreal next month and target up to 50% additional usable capacity. Utilidata has raised $40 million from Renown Capital Partners and Keyframe Capital, extending its Series C round to $100.3 million. The funding will expand adoption of Karman, a hardware module that optimises data centre power usage. Karman measures server rack energy consumption one million times per second and redirects excess electricity to other areas when usage drops. The module responds to utilisation changes in 20 milliseconds, enabling data centres to maximise existing power capacity rather than purchasing additional supply. Built on Nvidia's Jetson Orion Nano accelerator, Karman can also identify when operators set aside excessive power reserves. Utilidata recently partnered with NextGen Cloud to deploy the technology, aiming to boost usable inference capacity by up to 50%. The module also supports power grid applications, including residential smart metres.
