Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in science, business, healthcare administration, or a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience, except where legal requirements apply.
  • At least three years of experience with coverage analysis, clinical research study coordination or management, health systems operations, or related research or healthcare experience.
  • Working knowledge of the Medicare Clinical Trials Policy and other federal, state, and institutional clinical research regulations.
  • Ability to communicate complex policy, financial, and scientific or technical information clearly to a wide audience.
  • Ability to teach and mentor others in group settings, one-on-one sessions, and remotely.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
  • Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive and independent analysis of clinical trial protocols and study documents, including research study budgets, contracts, informed consents, pharmacy and laboratory manuals, and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct detailed coverage analysis of research procedures in alignment with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rules and develop audit-ready study billing grids.
  • Assist investigators in determining study status under Medicare coverage rules and identifying services as non-covered research-only, routine care, or investigational items and services, including their associated costs.
  • Interpret and apply Medicare National Coverage Determinations and Noridian local coverage decisions for routine costs in clinical trials, as well as applicable UW Medicine clinical research budgeting and billing policies and procedures.
  • Analyze industry sponsor budget proposals, clinical trial protocols, and manuals to develop and negotiate comprehensive study budgets and payment terms.
  • Inform the development and implementation of institutional and multi-institutional clinical trials and accompanying systems.
  • Analyze study protocol complexity to determine appropriate costing and effort application.
  • Analyze and validate clinical trial financial systems design and operational workflows to optimize performance and productivity.
  • Contribute to development of Clinical Trials Office metrics and analytics for internal and external audiences.
  • Assist in developing standardized procedures and tools for clinical research budgeting and coverage analysis.
  • Contribute to development of Clinical Trials Office website content, training materials, and standard operating procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in business or healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working in OnCore or other clinical trial management systems.
  • Coverage analysis certification or Association of Clinical Research Professionals or Society of Clinical Research Associates credentials, such as CCRC or CCRP.
  • Experience working with an intake ticketing system.
