Medical Receptionist/Patient Services Representative
About the job
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in a front desk, medical receptionist, or other administrative role is required.
- CPR certification is required, or the candidate must be willing to obtain it upon hire.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills are required.
- Strong organizational and multitasking ability in a clinical setting is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic health record systems is required.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA compliance standards is required.
- The candidate must be able to remain composed in fast-paced and emergency situations.
- The candidate must maintain patient confidentiality and provide high-quality service.
- The candidate must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, or reach; use hands and fingers frequently for patient care and equipment operation; and have normal or corrected vision and hearing to respond quickly in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Greet patients and visitors warmly and professionally.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out, verify insurance, and collect co-pays.
- Schedule patient appointments, testing, and follow-ups in collaboration with providers.
- Submit and track prior authorizations, including verifying insurance and submitting required documentation.
- Answer incoming calls and respond to patient inquiries courteously and accurately.
- Maintain up-to-date, HIPAA-compliant records in the electronic health record system.
- Keep the front office area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary forms and supplies.
- Assist with emergency response protocols by alerting clinical staff as needed.
- Contribute to onboarding and training new team members to build support and cross-functional skills.
- Experience with insurance verification, scheduling, and electronic health records is preferred.
- Prior experience in allergy, immunology, or respiratory care settings is preferred.
- Experience submitting and managing insurance prior authorizations is preferred.
