Requirements
  • At least six months of prior experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician.
  • Lab, medical records, and SOAP knowledge.
  • Surgery experience.
  • Ability to read a fecal float, fecal direct, and ear/skin cytology.
  • Comfort with in-house hematology and chemistry equipment and a reference laboratory.
  • Knowledge of basic canine and feline vaccines and basic vital signs.
  • Skill in phlebotomy, including cephalic, lateral saphenous, and jugular draws, as well as subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous injections.
  • Experience with dental prophylaxis.
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including exposure to agitated or injured animals, potentially loud environments, lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, retrieving objects from ground level to several feet high, and remaining mobile or stationary for long periods.
Responsibilities
  • Provide quality, compassionate care for patients while maximizing clinic productivity.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations and properly handle animals before, during, and after procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging, including X-rays and ultrasound.
  • Clean, sterilize, and prepare kennels, examination rooms, and equipment.
  • Maintain and update medical charts, administer medications and treatments, and care for animals during visits.
  • Communicate basic diagnoses, such as ear infections, skin infections, and intestinal parasites, to pet parents.
  • For qualified technicians, perform dental prophylaxis, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture, and assist with surgeries.
Desired Qualifications
  • Veterinary Technician licensure, such as Registered Veterinary Technician, Licensed Veterinary Technician, or Certified Veterinary Technician.
