Requirements
  • Graduate of a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • National certification by one of the recognized Advanced Practice Registered Nurse certification centers.
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required, with additional Advanced Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
  • Demonstrated competency in patient care assessment for each patient population area served: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Near vision, normal hearing, and manual dexterity are required.
  • Ability to lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and carry materials and equipment.
  • Awareness of environmental factors and infection control issues while maintaining a safe environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide healthcare services under the supervision of a physician.
  • Conduct complete physical examinations, provide treatment, and counsel patients.
  • Prescribe medicine when appropriate.
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and point-of-care laboratory tests.
  • Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
  • Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Make diagnoses and decisions about the management and treatment of patients.
  • Obtain, compile, and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and physical examination results, using the Meditech electronic medical record.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Prescribe therapy or medication electronically when available.
  • Educate, instruct, and coordinate activities with medical assistants as needed during patient care and treatment.
  • Provide emergency support following established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with staff, medical staff, and administration in support of operations.
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with patients, families, co-workers, medical staff, and administration.
