Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program or certification as a medical assistant.
  • Hold and maintain an unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse license in the State of Ohio or hold a certified medical assisting certification.
  • Hold and maintain Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Read, write, and speak English.
  • Have computer competency including word processing, email, and internet use.
  • Work within the scope of practice for the applicable licensure or certification.
  • Be able to manage a demanding workload with accuracy.
  • Be able to lift, carry, and store clinical equipment and supplies as directed.
  • Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift 25 to 50 pounds when required.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-visit planning at least one day before each scheduled patient appointment.
  • Assist providers with patient office visits by rooming patients, documenting patient history, and recording vital signs.
  • Prepare, administer, and document medications and procedures as directed by the medical provider.
  • Provide counseling and health education, including literature and instruction for continuity of care.
  • Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations for hazardous materials.
  • Prepare, clean, maintain, and restock examination rooms after each patient.
  • Perform patient care in an environment that promotes patient safety and reduces medical or healthcare errors.
  • Collaborate with patient care team members to consolidate work, solve problems, create efficiencies, and reduce costs.
  • Execute responsibilities within a team structure with minimal supervision.
  • Follow Health Department guidelines regarding communicable diseases.
  • Document nursing care in accordance with professional standards using the agency-approved electronic health record.
  • Communicate sensitive patient and staff information verbally and in writing to support continuity of care.
  • Address incoming phone calls, patient requests, and voicemail throughout the day.
  • Respond to telephone encounters, fax inbox, and scan inbox throughout the day.
  • Protect confidential patient information from unauthorized use or disclosure.
  • Coordinate inventory, order processing, and distribution of products and services.
  • Ensure appropriate distribution of tasks within the team.
  • Participate in daily huddles and attend regular department meetings.
  • Train and educate the team.
  • Ensure daily duties, logs, and checklists are completed accurately.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Report suspected child or vulnerable-person abuse or neglect to child protective services or law enforcement as required by Ohio law.
  • Comply with the organization's written standards, compliance program, standards of conduct, policies, and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two to five years of community health experience.
  • Previous experience with electronic health record technology.
