Modulr becomes the only non-bank payment service provider with direct access to all three major UK payment schemes. Modulr, the payments automation platform built to scale, has become a direct participant in CHAPS, the UK's same-day high-value payment scheme, settling directly at the Bank of England. Modulr is one of the 260+ fintechs in the FinTech Scotland community. CHAPS is a critical part of the UK's payments infrastructure, enabling high-value, time-critical payments. In 2025 the system settled £93.9tn across a record 53.3mn payments, an average of £371.3bn every working day, according to the Bank of England. As demand and transaction volumes grow, settling CHAPS payments directly at the Bank of England gives Modulr greater control over its payment flows and a more efficient service for customers. This development also means Modulr is the only non-bank payment service provider (NBPSP) with direct access to all three of the UK's major payment schemes: Faster Payments, Bacs, and CHAPS. Myles Stephenson, Founder & CEO, Modulr, said: "Becoming a direct participant in CHAPS is a landmark moment for Modulr; we are now the only non-bank payment service provider in the UK connected directly to all three major UK payment schemes, which uniquely positions us in the market to provide a resilient payments automation platform that scales with our customers". Modulr has also just been named one of the world's top fintech companies for 2026 by CNBC and Statista, a prestigious recognition that reflects the company's growing impact and reputation on a global scale. Modulr's achievement is a testament to the ambition and capability within Scotland's fintech community.
Modulr makes key leadership appointments to support European growth. Amsterdam, Netherlands | 16 July 2026: Modulr, the payments automation platform built to scale, today announces two senior appointments with a focus on growth in Europe. Modulr Group's current Director of Strategy, Jakub Zmuda, will take up the position of Managing Director in Europe and Chair of Management Board of Modulr Finance B.V., Modulr's European subsidiary. Jakub Zmuda has more than 15 years' experience in the payments industry and became a founding member of Modulr in 2016 as Chief Product Officer. Since then, he has focused on strategic growth, including new market entry and expansion. As Managing Director for Europe, he will drive Modulr's regional growth backed by continued investment in local talent and a platform that scales with its growing customer base. This new position builds on the recent appointment of payments industry veteran Mark Buitenhek, who joined Modulr as Independent Chair of the Supervisory Board of Modulr Finance B.V. Mark Buitenhek brings more than 25 years of experience in payments. At ING, he held global leadership roles across payments and cash management as well as transaction services. He has served on the Boards of the European Payments Council, Mastercard Europe, Payconiq, and SWIFT. As independent Chair, he brings deep strategic and governance expertise to Modulr, supporting the company's next phase of growth in Europe. Commenting on Modulr's European growth, Myles Stephenson, Founder & CEO, Modulr said: "Following a strong financial period for Modulr, including reaching profitability last year and launching in the US earlier this year, our sights are set on further growth and building a platform that scales across Europe. These appointments strengthen our leadership and governance in Europe as we continue our growth in the region". About Modulr. Modulr is the payments automation platform built to scale, driving the future of finance operations by streamlining money movement with accuracy, control, and reliability. Through a single platform, Modulr automates how money moves into and out of a business - including payroll, supplier payments, spend management, and payment collection - which in turn removes manual work, lowers operational costs, and reduces errors. Backed by deep industry expertise, Modulr brings over a decade of experience as a regulated payments provider, delivering the reliability required to run mission-critical finance operations at scale. Processing more than 200m transactions and over £180bn in payment value on an annualised basis, Modulr is trusted by over 6,000 businesses, from fast-growing SMEs to global enterprises, including through a partnership with global financial technology leader FIS. As founding shareholders of the UK Payments Initiative (UKPI), Modulr provides direct access to commercial Variable Recurring Payments. Modulr is authorised and regulated as an electronic money institution (EMI) in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and in Europe by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).
A new way to get paid: Modulr adds cVRP to its Collections Hub. * Payments * 19.06.2026 02:18 pm Modulr, the payments automation platform built to scale, today announced the launch of commercial Variable Recurring Payments (cVRP), designed to offer a flexible, faster alternative to traditional payments for businesses collecting large volumes. This announcement follows the rollout of the scheme by the UK Payments Initiative (UKPI). Modulr has helped shape the scheme from the outset as a UKPI founding shareholder and is delivering cVRP to customers as part of its Collections Hub, which offers unified access to multiple payment methods on one automated platform. Faster, more reliable collections at scale There are currently persistent challenges for businesses that collect recurring payments. Direct Debit failures have been increasing for five consecutive years and are currently sitting at 9% higher year-on-year in 2026 than 2025, representing significant costs for UK businesses. Modulr's customers are already using Variable Recurring Payments to automate and scale collections to their customer accounts. These include lenders, such as Oakbrook, who are providing borrowers greater flexibility, visibility, and control, and earned wage access businesses, which are enabling employees to easily manage and repay wage advances. cVRP now expands the use cases that can benefit from Open Banking, enabling businesses to collect varying amounts from a customer's account each month with just one initial, authorised sign-off, removing the need to ask permission each time. Every payment settles via Faster Payments, giving real-time confirmation. Modulr brings cVRP to market through its Collections Hub, combining Direct Debit and Open Banking payments on a single platform built to scale with its 6,000+ customers. The Collections Hub is designed to respond to customers' collections needs, with customers saying the Hub's services add "resilience and reliability" to their processes. Melek Pirgon, Chief Product Officer at Modulr, commented: "Businesses running high-volume collections shouldn't have to choose between reliability and flexibility. cVRP gives them both. As a founding member of UKPI, we're now delivering cVRP to customers as part of our Collections Hub, providing a scalable alternative to traditional payments." Richard Koch, Managing Director, UK Payments Initiative, added: "The launch of UKPI is a significant step in building a more modern and flexible payments ecosystem that gives businesses and consumers real choice. With Modulr bringing deep expertise in powering and scaling payment flows, we are strengthening the foundations needed to make open banking payments widely accessible, reliable and ready for everyday use."
GoDutch appoints Kalle van de Wall as new chief risk and compliance officer. Kalle van de Wall previously led risk and compliance for embedded payments provider Modulr and served as chief compliance officer for Brex. June 9, 2026 Business banking start-up GoDutch has appointed Kalle van de Wall as the company's new chief risk and compliance officer, effective immediately. He will work under co-founders Matias Tesolin and Thomas Vles, who confirmed the new board member addition via a statement posted to LinkedIn this week. In his statement, Vles says GoDutch is currently experiencing "rapid growth", with van de Wall to "play a key role in building the foundations for the next chapter". The company closed €3.6 million in a seed funding round led by Luxembourg Finance House in December, when Vles reported 12,500 active business users, 40% month-on-month growth on average, and €1.5 billion in transactions processed annually. A former criminal investigator for the Dutch national police force, van de Wall has a background that is heavily rooted in managing European market entry and expansion for global companies that process billions in annual transactions. He previously led risk and compliance for embedded payments provider Modulr, where he helped the firm secure an electronic money institution (EMI) licence from the Dutch central bank in 2022. Van de Wall then moved to expense management platform Brex, serving first as chief compliance officer before ascending to head of compliance and risk management for Europe at the end of 2023. In this most recent position, van de Wall worked to secure the regulatory approvals necessary to expand the American fintech giant's services to Europe. A brief job description by the company states that van de Wall has been hired in this latest role to "lead GoDutch's EMI licensing and build robust, scalable risk and compliance frameworks to enable safe growth across Europe". The company's attempts to scale operations across the Eurozone have so far included the rollout of international IBANs in Belgium in April. Modulr and Sardine partner to bring real-time, AI-enabled fraud detection to automated payments. Sardine, the leading agentic risk platform to fight financial crime, today announced a partnership with Modulr, the payments automation platform built to scale. Through the partnership, Sardine will support Modulr with a suite of integrated fraud and anti-money laundering (AML) solutions. The integration, as part of Modulr's broader investment in financial crime and risk management capabilities, enables Modulr to leverage Sardine's platform to detect and stop financial crime across card and real-time payment rails, while strengthening AML compliance and operational controls as the business scales. It is integrated into Modulr's Risk & Compliance Hub - a connected set of tools and infrastructure that spans the entire customer lifecycle and is built to protect customers, reduce friction, and prevent financial crime. Businesses are increasingly expected to move money instantly, yet many fraud and AML systems were built for slower settlement cycles and manual investigation workflows. By integrating Sardine's risk platform directly into its payment infrastructure, Modulr is able to leverage the latest technology to prevent and manage financial crime. "Real-time payments fundamentally change how fraud and AML needs to be managed," said Soups Ranjan, CEO and Co-Founder of Sardine. "When funds move instantly, risk decisions need to happen just as quickly. Modulr's platform delivers critical capability for automated payments, and we're excited to help ensure those payment flows remain secure as they scale." "For Modulr to provide our customers with the ability to run mission-critical finance operations accurately and at scale, we need strong compliance that gives peace of mind without adding friction - which is why we are partnering with tools like Sardine, and building a Risk & Compliance Hub that monitors every step of the customer journey to prevent financial crime," said Ben Taylor, Chief Operating Officer at Modulr. "For our customers, that translates to streamlined and low-friction onboarding, a better money movement experience, and crime prevention infrastructure that keeps pace as their business grows." Modulr's payments automation platform streamlines money movement with greater accuracy, control and reliability - built to scale and powering use cases across payroll, supplier payments, lending, and travel. Sardine backs that network with a track record of protecting over $1T in transaction volume across a global customer base of enterprises and financial institutions. Sardine also operates the fastest growing fraud data consortium, spanning more than 5.5 billion devices, 670 million consumers, and 2.8 million businesses. By protecting funds across some of the highest risk industries in financial services, Sardine gains early visibility into emerging fraud patterns. That intelligence helps Modulr's customers stay ahead of evolving threats. Published: May 1, 2026
