Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree, or an associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology with two years of applicable experience, or Certified Pharmacy Technician status with three years of applicable experience.
  • A current Louisiana pharmacy technician license in good standing with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
  • Experience with automated dispensing systems such as Omnicell or Pyxis.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and electronic medical records.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • An active Certified Pharmacy Technician credential and Louisiana pharmacy technician license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for prolonged periods, reach above and below the shoulder, kneel or sit on the floor, push and pull, grasp, bend, and squat.
  • Participation in emergency response activities and compliance with random drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of Omnicell automated dispensing machines across the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including cabinet-level functionality and Omnicenter server management.
  • Configure and load inventory items, perform system updates, and ensure optimal automated dispensing machine performance.
  • Perform daily controlled substance cycle counts and investigate and resolve discrepancies through transaction review, system audits, and communication with staff.
  • Reconcile controlled substance activity by reviewing Omnicell transactions, electronic medical record documentation, and treatment records for accuracy, appropriate use, and regulatory compliance.
  • Generate and analyze Omnicell reports to monitor usage trends, identify discrepancies, and support regulatory, legal, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate medication inventory in Omnicell through restocking, expiration monitoring, removal of outdated medications, and par-level adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and collaborate with pharmacy leadership and technical support to maintain uninterrupted dispensing-system operation.
  • Support Controlled Substance Manager functions, including discrepancy resolution, cycle counts, and controlled substance workflow oversight.
  • Assist with implementation, reconfiguration, and optimization of Omnicell units as operational needs change.
  • Train and support pharmacy staff, clinicians, house officers, and veterinary technicians in proper Omnicell use, system access, and established protocols.
  • Support daily pharmacy operations, including prescription filling, research order preparation, and room-stock fulfillment.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile preparations in accordance with United States Pharmacopeia standards using aseptic technique and pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Use electronic medical record and inventory systems to monitor stock levels, support medication ordering, and maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Assist with pharmacy stocking and workflow support, including handling and moving medications, fluids, and supplies.
  • Maintain working knowledge of human and veterinary medications and hospital supply items.
  • Communicate with clients, clinicians, and hospital staff to support patient care and pharmacy operations.
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support pharmacy operations and hospital needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience.
  • Experience with controlled substance management, including reconciliation and discrepancy resolution.
  • Hospital or veterinary pharmacy experience.
  • Familiarity with Drug Enforcement Administration and Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Experience with sterile and non-sterile compounding under United States Pharmacopeia standards 795 and 797.
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification, such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification.
