Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
  • Certification in CPI Nonviolence Crisis Intervention or other crisis management training.
  • Ability to recognize underlying causes of social problems, counsel individuals concerning personal and family problems, and elicit pertinent personal information.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, principles and practices of sociology applicable to juvenile casework, county and state regulations pertaining to juvenile care, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing, establish effective interpersonal relationships, gain respect and cooperation, remain alert and vigilant, handle stressful situations, and create a constructive atmosphere for crisis problem solving.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, calculate rates, ratios, and percentages, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems involving limited standardization and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions.
  • Ability to physically restrain and secure residents, assist with carrying restrained individuals, and meet the stated physical demands of the position.
Responsibilities
  • Process new admissions and releases; record and maintain medical needs, medication administration, and referrals to the nurse.
  • Orient residents to policies, rules, and procedures; supervise residents, enforce rules, guide program participation, and provide security.
  • Report irregularities, emergencies, and matters of consequence to the Administrator.
  • Act as liaison between Family Center for Juvenile Justice staff and residents.
  • Record and maintain written reports regarding residents' behavior and adjustment.
  • Ensure all areas and rooms are clean, sanitized, and presentable.
  • Plan or assist with planning and participate in staff meetings and staff training.
  • Remain subject to recall and work other shifts during emergencies.
  • Counsel residents and support positive behavioral changes.
  • Use a personal computer for admissions and releases.
  • Provide peer-to-peer training on facility unit needs and functions.
  • Provide peer-to-peer training support, including staff-level use of MUNIS and the LMS System.
  • Participate in special projects, including data collection, document creation, and presentation of materials to agency leadership or community collaborators.
  • Aid juveniles with personal and environmental difficulties by leading social-skills training under Core Correctional Practices.
  • Organize and execute scheduled program-enhancement groups for residents under the general direction of the assigned Shift Supervisor.
  • Support supervisors and lead detention counselors by training and mentoring new employees during their initial orientation and verifying training status on orientation checklists.
  • Provide specific training to current employees when requested by the assigned Shift Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
