Athletic Business recognizes three CannonDesign projects as 2026 Facilities of Merit.

Athletic Business recognizes three CannonDesign projects as 2026 Facilities of Merit. October 19, 2026 It is exciting to share that Athletic Business has selected three of its sports and recreation projects as part of its prestigious annual Facilities of Merit awards. Its work with Seton Hall University, Skidmore College and Under Armour are three of the 10 projects recognized by Athletic Business as the top 10 new or expanded athletics, fitness and/or recreation facilities of the year. Here is more information about each of the award-winning projects: Seton Hall Basketball Performance Center. The Basketball Performance Center is a bold step forward for Seton Hall and its commitment to empowering collegiate athletes to thrive. It offers dynamic amenities including a new basketball court, leading-edge strength and conditioning spaces, a film room, new coaches offices, a players lounge, dining room, a steam and sauna space and more. A cantilevered section of the building, inspired by the way basketball players seemingly float above the rim, helps announce the building's presence from afar. Under Armour's The Stadium at The House. The Stadium at The House is a state-of-the-art sports facility featuring a multidimensional field that can host high school football, NCAA and high school soccer and lacrosse, an eight-lane, 400-meter competition track and seating for 1,400 fans. Day to day, Under Armour uses the venue to test its products in the pursuit of new levels of athlete performance. Infused with leading-edge technology, the facility can track and measure athletes' performance in real time. Skidmore College mccaffery-wagman Tennis and Wellness Center. Fusing athletics, recreation, fitness, mental health, educational resources and more in one space, the McCaffery Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center marks a pivotal moment for Skidmore College as it deepens its commitment to the holistic student experience. The cube-shaped pavilion houses two floors of fitness space and a medical center, while the triangular volume connects to the surrounding outdoor tennis complex and includes athletic support, multiuse, wellness and counseling spaces. These three award-winning projects build on its company's long track record of success with the Athletic Business Facilities of Merit program. More than 15 of its facilities have earned this distinction over time, including projects such as the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Kline Center at Dickinson College and the University Recreation Center at University of North Carolina Charlotte.

CannonDesign adorns concrete waves at the Mount Sinai Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center.

CannonDesign adorns concrete waves at the Mount Sinai Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center. September 24, 2026 Brought to you by: When donors Norman and Irma Braman sought to build a new cancer care center for Mount Sinai in Miami Beach, they had the design intent of "wanting an art museum, but happened to be a hospital," CannonDesign principal Natalie Petzoldt told AN. The result is the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center, a 220,000-square-foot parametrically designed, concrete-clad building on the shores of Florida's Biscayne Bay. CannonDesign first worked with Mount Sinai's Florida division when the firm completed the Skolnick Surgical Tower and Hildebrandt Emergency Center in 2019. It was there that they first encountered the necessary performance requirements for a facade to withstand Florida's weather: resistant to hurricanes, flooding, and extreme heat. So when CannonDesign won the design competition for Mount Sinai's new cancer center, the groundwork was already laid, and there was an established aesthetic: curving concrete. "We knew the campus; we knew what it was like to design here for South Florida along Biscayne Bay," said Petzoldt. Design Leader Arjun Bhat later added, "Everything that we did was built to withstand hurricane-force winds; the laminate glazing units and precast concrete are great materials to use in terms of their resiliency in this environment, its stability in the face of the marine environment." The cancer center's site was originally a Mount Sinai parking lot. It frequently experienced flooding and overflow due to its proximity to the water. During the Skolnik Tower construction, the site was raised three feet, then it was raised another three feet for the Braman Center, bringing it to a total of six feet above the existing seawall. This dually protected the building's base from the tides but also removed the view of land from its interior, an effect that the architects described as floating on the water. Discover more Newspaper subscription Architecture jobs board Architect job listings "When you're looking out of these windows, you actually don't see any of this foreground, and so it just looks like you're right on the water," said Design Leader Arjun Bhat Miami's Art Deco design language inspired the undulating facade, and staying in conversation with the Skolnik Tower, the chosen facade material is concrete. Due to the complexity of the design, CannonDesign tapped Wells to manage the precasting of the concrete. The spandrel's curvilinear design was achieved through an algorithm that took a sine wave and deconstructed it for each panel. Once this was found, revisions to the footprint perimeter were made to adhere to the algorithm. Together, CannonDesign and Wells discovered that rather than crafting unique molds for each panel, they only needed to construct one half and flip it to get a reflected image. What could have been 700 unique panels became only 70. "Because you're reusing them, you're flipping them... you can maximize the amount of repetition that each of them has across the facade," Bhat told AN. The concrete belt was erected weeks ahead of schedule due to the streamlining of the fabrication and installation process. Through a combination of cost and production efficiency, increased budget and designability could be afforded to the building entrance's canopy, which was also precast concrete. The curvature and the amount of volume the concrete belt offers provide passive shading to the interior. However, heavy consideration was placed on the performance of the glass curtain's material because of its expansiveness. CannonDesign installed Viracon VNE 63 with clear interlayer lamination to withstand inclement weather. Further flood barrier systems were implemented with 9SG and 7SG systems by Crawford-Tracy. The entire building envelope is working towards LEED Gold certification. Introducing our 2025 Sustainability Impact Report.

Introducing its 2025 Sustainability Impact Report. September 21, 2026 CannonDesign is proud to share its third annual Sustainability Impact Report, building on the work CannonDesign outlined in 2023 and 2024. This year's report focuses on its 2025 actions, offering a transparent look at its progress to date and the priorities that will guide CannonDesign next. Planet 2100 continues to anchor the report, pushing CannonDesign to weigh how today's decisions ripple into the future. CannonDesign believe design has real power to shape a healthier planet, and this report shows how that belief is playing out in practice. A few highlights from this year's report: * CannonDesign achieved carbon neutrality in its business operations. Its 2025 emissions are fully accounted for, with Scope 2 electricity use offset by 100% unbundled Renewable Energy Certificates and remaining emissions covered through carbon credits. * CannonDesign now have 379 LEED certified projects and counting. * Its sustainability team has grown to 23 teammates dedicated to sustainable and regenerative design. * CannonDesign advanced its work bringing building material impacts into the center of its design and specification process. * Its acquisition of Christner Architects and Jenkins - Peer Architects deepened its firm's expertise in adaptive reuse and sustainable historic preservation. Christner also brought an in-house landscape architecture team with deep experience designing native landscapes and a broader range of sustainable design work. * CannonDesign climbed eight spots to #4 in Interior Design magazine's "Sustainability Giants" ranking. * Fortune named us to its "Change the World List," citing its sustainability leadership as a key factor. * CannonDesign hit new milestones in mass timber, building electrification, historic preservation and adaptive-reuse design. Thank you for your continued interest in its sustainability journey. This report is part of an ongoing commitment, and CannonDesign hope you'll continue to follow its progress in the years to come.
