Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field is required.
  • An active Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in Special Education, Adapted Curriculum or General Curriculum, or eligibility to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire, is required.
  • At least one year of classroom experience supporting students with autism, emotional and behavioral disorders, or related disabilities is required; student teaching counts.
  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Program development, Applied Behavior Analysis principles, and positive behavior support strategies is required.
  • A valid Virginia driver's license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver daily instruction across core academic subjects for a class of 4–8 students ages 6–21 using individualized Applied Behavior Analysis-based lesson plans.
  • Develop, review, and implement Individualized Education Programs in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and lead or co-lead Individualized Education Program meetings with families and district representatives.
  • Apply Positive Behavior Support strategies and collect and analyze daily behavioral and academic data.
  • Collaborate with Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists embedded in the building.
  • Maintain compliance documentation and communication logs in line with state and accreditation requirements.
