Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in automation or controls engineering is required.
  • Experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Mastery of automation software applications, including the Allen-Bradley RSLogix portfolio, Allen-Bradley RSView, and GE Proficy SCADA/HMI iFix.
  • Knowledge of discrete machine control, Allen-Bradley safety programmable logic controllers, gearboxes, safety circuits, and pneumatics.
  • Mastery of data historian systems.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks carefully and on schedule according to standard operating procedures and supervisor instructions.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical functions and compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
  • Ability to draw and interpret graphs and charts.
  • Ability to solve practical problems involving varied concrete conditions with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency in maintaining automation equipment.
  • A solid understanding of computer programming and software development.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and implement new methods to automate systems to improve efficiency and compliance.
  • Test automation equipment and processes, including driving factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and commissioning activities, and assist the Validation Department with qualification efforts.
  • Program new automated components, such as door interlock systems.
  • Evaluate existing auto-generated reports, identify improvements, and provide requirements for future auto-generated reports.
  • Maintain current automation systems so that software remains current and runs on the appropriate platform.
  • Design and implement manufacturing technology to automate production processes and equipment.
  • Support production operations through equipment and process troubleshooting and implement production-efficiency improvements.
  • Develop user and design requirements, select equipment vendors or complete technology design and equipment builds in-house, manage automation installation, ensure safety, and support validation of automated systems for compliance with requirements, current good manufacturing practices, and intended operation.
  • Support Maintenance Technicians with troubleshooting and technology issues outside their area of expertise.
  • Work with production supervisors and managers to identify improvements to equipment throughput, flexibility, quality, safety, and reliability.
  • Implement automation solutions resulting from deviations, investigations, and corrective and preventive action assignments.
  • Compose Functional Requirement Specifications for new or upgraded utility systems, compounding processes, and filling equipment.
  • Design and implement modifications to existing manufacturing equipment to improve operational efficiency.
  • Act as the engineering and technical lead for key plant projects.
  • Provide technical support for and lead safety and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Program programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, and inspection systems.
  • Manage multiple capital projects concurrently.
  • Design, install, and support validation of automated control systems for new or upgraded utility systems, compounding processes, and filling equipment.
  • Generate and revise standard operating procedures.
  • Lead manufacturing deviation investigations and apply good engineering practices to reduce repeat nonconformances.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve manufacturing operational efficiency.
  • Perform risk assessments and risk mitigation activities using systematic tools.
  • Participate in discussions with internal customers to determine project timing and sequence project milestones.
  • Request bids from contractors and suppliers with the procurement group and recommend the best provider.
  • Prepare and submit capital expenditure documents.
  • Comply with applicable federal and state regulations and company training requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment free of safety hazards.

  • Previous work experience in a sterile manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Exemplary knowledge of discrete machine control, Allen-Bradley safety programmable logic controllers, gearboxes, safety circuits, and pneumatics.
