Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible relevant experience for Director of Development 4, including three years of full-time fundraising experience, or six years of progressively responsible relevant experience for Director of Development 5, including four years of full-time fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated success in proposal writing and submission.
  • Evidence of the ability to plan and execute a fundraising drive or project from conception to realization.
  • Demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitations of gifts of $50,000 or more, or comparable progressively responsible full-time consultative sales experience.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to cultivate, develop, and steward client and donor relationships.
  • Understanding of proposal development and writing, fundraising or client development principles and techniques, project management, and relevant event planning and management.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by the time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet departmental driving standards.
  • Evening and weekend work is required.
Responsibilities
  • Support unit fundraising goals by planning and conducting outreach that promotes constituent understanding of unit activities and research, with the aim of cultivating donors and raising money.
  • Conduct annual giving, major gift development, and planned gift identification and advancement.
  • For Director of Development 4, secure 12–16 major gifts or pledges, open a minimum of 20 solicitations, and achieve a minimum annual fundraising goal of $1,000,000.
  • For Director of Development 5, manage a portfolio of 75–100 donors, secure 12–16 major gifts or pledges, open a minimum of 20 solicitations, achieve a minimum annual fundraising goal of $2,000,000, and close one-third of major gifts at $250,000 or higher.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fundraising experience closing major gifts of $100,000 or more for Director of Development 4, or $250,000 or more for Director of Development 5.
  • Experience planning and executing a fundraising project from conception to realization.
  • Experience engaging faculty and translating their research into lay terms for prospective donors.
  • Experience articulating athletic department or higher education philanthropic priorities for prospective donors.
  • Experience with alumni, donor, or ticket database applications.
  • An advanced degree.
