About the job

Requirements
  • At least 6 years of experience in quality assurance or quality operations for data labeling, human data, or machine-learning training/evaluation data, including experience leading a quality function or team.
  • Ability to translate complex or ambiguous specifications into guidelines and training that produce consistent results.
  • Applied statistics knowledge for quality assurance, including sampling design, confidence intervals, and agreement metrics, and ability to explain methodological choices to customers.
  • Hands-on experience configuring review and quality-assurance workflows in an annotation platform.
  • Proficiency in Claude Code for quality analysis.
  • Strong written communication skills for producing guidelines and quality reports.
Responsibilities
  • Turn customer specification documents into project-ready enablement packages, including annotator guidelines, decision trees, edge-case libraries with worked examples, and onboarding walkthroughs.
  • Build qualification tests and gold-standard sets to confirm annotators understand specifications before beginning production work.
  • Run pilot and calibration rounds at project kickoff, surface specification ambiguities, and resolve them with the customer and delivery lead before scaling.
  • Maintain versioned guidelines throughout projects, roll out updates as edge cases appear, and confirm the workforce has absorbed changes.
  • Design the quality plan for each project, choosing a review structure based on task type, risk, and budget.
  • Set sampling methodologies, size samples to meet target confidence levels, stratify by class and difficulty, and adjust annotator review rates based on performance.
  • Select appropriate task metrics, including accuracy against gold, agreement measures such as kappa or alpha, and per-class error rates; set acceptance thresholds appropriate to task subjectivity.
  • Configure workflows in the labeling platform and turn effective approaches into reusable quality playbooks by task type.
  • Own final quality sign-off and ensure each delivery meets its agreed acceptance criteria before shipping.
  • Monitor quality throughout each project, detect drift, conduct root-cause analysis on defects, and drive corrective action for individuals and guidelines.
  • Produce a quality report for every delivery describing the methodology, results, and known limitations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with large language model, reinforcement learning from human feedback, or preference-data projects.
  • Experience with expert or domain-specialist workforces.
  • Background in instructional design.
  • Familiarity with Label Studio.
  • Experience with model-assisted quality assurance.

  • Labelbox, Scale AI, and CVAT compress differentiation with broader workflows and managed services.
  • If enterprises standardize on agent-native evaluation tools, Label Studio becomes a niche utility.

What makes HumanSignal unique

  • Label Studio powers open-source annotation, then sells enterprise governance and on-prem deployment.
  • June 10, 2026 Interfaces lets agents generate custom labeling UIs from prompts.
  • August 25, 2026 DocLang integration makes HumanSignal first to export DocLang natively.

Heartex’S Label Studio Makes Labeling Audio For Ml Easier

Heartex, the well-funded machine learning data labeling startup, is launching a major update to its platform today that will open up new use cases for its tools by making annotating audio files in the commercial and open source versions of its Label Studio a lot easier for its users. These updates include a new user interface, optimized for working with audio files, the ability to annotate longer files (up to two hours in length) and millisecond controls in the built-in annotation tool. There is also now a new rendering engine for displaying waveforms. In a previous update, Heartex also added to its tool features like frame-by-frame video object tracking and an overhauled annotation UI.The company says about 150,000 users are currently relying on Label Studio, with more than 95 million annotations created so far.Image Credits: Heartex“When we were originally thinking about building the data labeling solution, we did a lot of data scientist interviews,” Heartex co-founder and CEO Michael Malyuk told me. “And what we figured out is that many of them say they don’t have enough flexibility with existing tools. There is a tool for images, but you can only put a single image on the screen
