About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience spanning the full life cycle of space vehicle and spacecraft development.
  • Demonstrated operational technical authority on a complete vehicle program from architecture through flight and anomaly resolution.
  • A track record of building and scaling multidisciplinary engineering organizations of 50 or more through Directors and Principal Individual Contributors.
  • Deep system-level fluency across mass, power, guidance, navigation and control, structural loads, and thermal environments.
  • Experience bridging research and development and manufacturing, including design for manufacturability, travelers, acceptance criteria, and low-rate initial production.
Responsibilities
  • Own schedule, technical performance, and budget across Carryall and Airdrop, including scope, risk, schedule, and make-or-buy trade-offs.
  • Hire, develop, and manage engineering leaders across all vehicle disciplines and set standards for technical excellence, ownership, and pace.
  • Own architecture implementation, interface control, and performance envelopes; enforce design standards, margin policy, and flight-readiness criteria; and chair preliminary design, critical design, test readiness, and certification of flight readiness reviews.
  • Own Material Review Board and Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System rigor, and oversee test planning and execution.
  • Establish design for manufacturability, quality management systems, configuration management, and acceptance criteria to move Carryall and Airdrop from development into low-rate initial production and fleet-scale production.
  • Own make-or-buy and supplier strategy across propulsion, avionics, thermal protection systems, and recovery subsystems.
  • Represent vehicle engineering to the CEO, Board, customers, and government stakeholders, and align execution with Programs, Business Development, and Operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Active U.S. Government security clearance; not required but beneficial.
  • Experience with reentry vehicles, hypersonics, precision aerial delivery, or autonomous recovery systems.
  • Fluency in Federal Acquisition Regulation/Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, Other Transaction Authority, or NASA safety and mission assurance.
  • Venture-backed or rapid-growth aerospace experience.

About the company

Outpost builds and sells a low-mass, two-stage re-entry system for satellites that enables return to Earth and reuse. The system is fully deployable and compatible with any current launch provider, handling up to 125 kg of payload. It reduces space debris by allowing satellites to be recovered rather than discarded, and it can be used with multiple operators and space agencies through sales and service contracts. Outpost differentiates itself by emphasizing sustainability, launcher-agnostic compatibility, and a service-oriented model rather than just hardware. The goal is to make space operations more efficient and less wasteful, supporting cost-effective, scalable access to space for a growing set of customers.

What believers are saying

  • October 2, 2026 Exobiosphere became Space Factories’ first commercial customer.
  • September 24, 2026 launch turns Outpost into an orbital manufacturing infrastructure provider.
  • AFRL’s May 4, 2026 contract and NASA agreements create non-dilutive validation and follow-on demand.

What critics are saying

  • First orbital mission slips to 2028, delaying revenue and proving the system late.
  • Publicly disclosed funding remains about $7.1 million, thin for hardware, launches, and recovery.
  • A failed return flight destroys customer trust and kills the reusable logistics thesis.

What makes Outpost unique

  • Outpost’s CarryAll targets 200 kilograms to 10 tons with precision Earth return.
  • September 2026 Space Factories bundles manufacturing, reentry, recovery, and refurbishment into one platform.
  • NASA and AFRL agreements validate Outpost’s reusable return technology across defense and orbital research.

Exobiosphere becomes first customer of Outpost's Space Factories for microgravity drug discovery

Exobiosphere will become the first commercial customer of Outpost's Space Factories platform, flying its Orbital High-Throughput System for microgravity drug discovery. The space biotech company will use Outpost's reusable CarryAll spacecraft to conduct disease research and drug development in orbit. Space Factories provides standardised, reusable infrastructure for orbital manufacturing and research, with reliable Earth return capabilities. The platform pairs CarryAll spacecraft with common services including power, thermal, and data interfaces, allowing customers to focus on their processes rather than building spacecraft. The agreement comes as demand for orbital research capacity exceeds International Space Station availability, and ahead of the ISS's planned 2030 decommissioning. Outpost's first orbital mission is scheduled for 2028. CarryAll vehicles can return cargo ranging from 200 kilograms to 10 metric tons, supporting sensitive research payloads in pressurised, ISS-compatible environments.

Outpost launches Space Factories: orbital manufacturing as a service with StarFiber first product

Outpost Technologies Corporation has launched Space Factories, a programme enabling companies to manufacture products in orbit without developing their own space infrastructure. The service provides standardised, reusable manufacturing modules, spacecraft, and Earth-return systems as a shared platform. The company will produce StarFiber, its own metal fluoride optical fibre, as the first product. These fibres offer lower signal loss than conventional silica fibres but require microgravity to avoid defects during production. Space Factories uses Outpost's CarryAll spacecraft as the foundation, providing power, communications, and recovery systems. Customers only customise the innermost manufacturing module, whilst sharing common infrastructure across missions. Recovered equipment can be refurbished and reflown. The platform targets products including optical fibres, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and advanced crystals that benefit from microgravity manufacturing. Companies can contact Outpost to discuss manufacturing modules.
