Tampa General invests $45M in Florida's Heartland with new ownership of DeSoto Memorial Hospital.

Tampa General invests $45M in Florida's Heartland with new ownership of DeSoto Memorial Hospital. Tampa General expands rural care with major DeSoto hospital investment. DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia became TGH DeSoto on Thursday. DeSoto County's only hospital now belongs to Tampa General Hospital's academic health system, backed by a $45 million commitment. The DeSoto County Hospital District Board voted unanimously on Nov. 10 to choose Tampa General's proposal over competing bids from AdventHealth and NorthStar Hospitals. The agreement is a 49-year lease under which Tampa General takes over operations of the 49-bed hospital. "Tampa General is making a long-term commitment to provide exceptional care in rural communities across Florida," said Tampa General President and CEO John Couris. "Working together with the DeSoto County Hospital District, we're maintaining the local access to care that is so important to this community, while connecting this region to the innovations, technologies, research and best-in-class care we offer across Tampa General's academic health system." Tampa General will invest at least $45 million over 10 years in technology, expanded services, and access to specialists. Existing staff will stay on, and the hospital will keep its community focus. "This is the start of a new era in DeSoto County, one that comes with a new name for our hospital, a significant investment in the care we offer this region and a connection to one of the nation's leading academic health systems," said Tampa General Senior Vice President Vince Sica, who ran DeSoto Memorial as CEO and now serves as president of TGH DeSoto. "But some things will never change: our commitment to care for the people of this community." Tampa General will also put its air ambulance fleet at TGH DeSoto's service, so patients who need a higher level of care can get to it quickly. The system plans to upgrade TGH DeSoto's electronic health record system to improve the patient experience and help the hospital meet regulatory requirements. "In joining the Tampa General family, we will honor DeSoto Memorial's history and what the Hospital District Board, team members, physicians and community partners worked so hard for over the years: ensuring this community had great healthcare," said Tampa General Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Stacey Brandt, who also serves as president of its Community and Specialty Hospital Division. "TGH will add to that foundation by bringing in needed services, offering the latest technologies and innovations, and providing access to leading-edge research and treatments." TGH DeSoto is the latest addition to a system that has grown quickly since 2023, when Tampa General bought three hospitals in Hernando and Citrus counties from Community Health Systems for about $290 million and rebranded them as TGH North. With TGH DeSoto, Tampa General's system now has eight hospitals, including specialty hospitals for inpatient rehabilitation and behavioral health, nearly 170 care locations, and more than 15,000 employees and providers. Couris and Sica will cut the ribbon at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the hospital, 900 N. Robert Ave. Ed. note: This story was drafted with assistance from AI. adherent360 continues expansion with AdventHealth, launches Medication Kiosk and Pharmacy Platform Solution at AdventHealth Clermont ER.

adherent360 continues expansion with AdventHealth, launches Medication Kiosk and Pharmacy Platform Solution at AdventHealth Clermont ER. Clermont, FL, 2026-10-01 - /EPR Network/ - adherent360, a leader in point-of-care medication access solutions, today announced the successful launch of its medication kiosk and pharmacy platform solution at AdventHealth Clermont's Emergency Room. This milestone coincides with the opening of the new ER, where adherent360 is helping ensure, patients receive their prescribed medications quickly and conveniently at the time of discharge. The adherent360 platform is designed to remove common barriers patients face when filling prescriptions after an emergency visit, including delays, transportation challenges, and limited pharmacy access. By combining a medication kiosk with a comprehensive pharmacy solution, adherent360 enables seamless medication dispensing directly at discharge - supporting improved adherence, better health outcomes, and a more efficient patient experience. "Being part of a brand-new emergency department launch is an exciting opportunity," said Steve Wilcher, CEO at adherent360. "Integrating both a medication kiosk and pharmacy platform into the care journey from day one ensures patients leave with what they need to continue their treatment without interruption." AdventHealth and adherent360 are in partnership to support expansion of the program to additional locations across AdventHealth's Central Florida Division to continue transforming healthcare and delivering positive results to patients and the overall healthcare system. Emergency departments play a critical role in patient care, but ensuring follow-through after discharge can be a challenge. A significant number of patients abandon their prescriptions after leaving the ER, increasing the risk of complications and ER revisits. adherent360 addresses this gap by delivering medications directly to patients before they leave the facility. The launch at AdventHealth Clermont ER reflects adherent360's continued commitment to innovation, patient-centered care, and improving outcomes through better medication access. The company looks forward to expanding its reach and partnering with healthcare organizations nationwide. About adherent360 adherent360 is a leading healthcare technology and services company dedicated to improving medication adherence and patient outcomes. AdventHealth opens its first St. Johns County emergency room.

AdventHealth opens its first St. Johns County emergency room. AdventHealth opens its first St. Johns County emergency room (Courtesy of the Jacksonville Daily Record) - AdventHealth held a grand opening July 10 for its first emergency room in St. Johns County, a 12-bed facility with a laboratory, X-ray equipment, ultrasound imaging and CT scanning capability. The AdventHealth Treaty Oaks ER, at 1775 Florida 207 east of Interstate 95, will begin treating patients at 7 a.m. July 14. The emergency room cost more than $20 million, according to Rob Deininger, president and CEO of AdventHealth's East Florida Division. "Today marks AdventHealth's first ER in St. Johns County, and it is only the beginning of our commitment here," he said in a news release. "We know trust is earned, and we take that seriously. As this community grows, we are committed to growing with it." Robins & Morton was the general contractor. It was designed by HuntonBrady Architects. AdventHealth opened its first St. Johns County clinic in November 2025, at 1000 Plantation Island Drive in St. Augustine, and plans to begin construction on a second emergency room in World Commerce Center this year. The moves are part of a broader expansion the company says reflects a long-term commitment to the county. "For more than 20 years, we've had a strong presence in neighboring Flagler County, investing in the healthcare infrastructure with a new hospital, cancer treatment center and additional physicians," Denyse Bales-Chubb, president and CEO for AdventHealth in St. Johns and Flagler counties, said in the release. "That same commitment to long-term health is now being extended to St. Johns County. This opening is a starting point, not a finish line. Our work here is just beginning." The emergency room will be staffed by about 50 emergency medical professionals, said Dr. Daniel McDermott, medical director and an emergency physician. "It's another access point that is closer to home when minutes matter. Emergencies obviously are all time-sensitive. So having some place to go that'll hopefully be closer to these communities is going to do nothing but increase the chance to have a good outcome," McDermott said. AdventHealth operates 32 hospitals, nearly two dozen freestanding emergency rooms and hundreds of clinics throughout Florida.

AdventHealth offers patients convenient access to urgent, primary care in New Smyrna Beach.

AdventHealth offers patients convenient access to urgent, primary care in New Smyrna Beach. The State Road 44 site includes New Smyrna Beach's first AdventHealth Centra Care and Volusia County's second Primary Care+ clinic. Published date: September 30, 2026 | Estimated read time: 2 minutes | * Sheri Hensley AdventHealth's new Centra Care and Primary Care+ clinics and their teams bring walk-in urgent care and ongoing primary care to New Smyrna Beach in one convenient location. NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - To give New Smyrna Beach residents more options for both walk-in urgent care and ongoing primary care, two new AdventHealth clinics are now open side-by-side on State Road 44. AdventHealth Centra Care New Smyrna Beach is the health system's first Centra Care location in the city, while AdventHealth Primary Care+ New Smyrna Beach is the second Primary Care+ clinic in Volusia County. The two practices are next door to each other but serve different needs. Centra Care treats non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that need prompt attention while Primary Care+ focuses on preventive care and long-term health management. "As New Smyrna Beach grows, access to care needs to grow with it," said Dennis Hernandez, MD, president and CEO of AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. "These new clinics give residents more options for care here whether they need help with an unexpected illness or injury or want to build an ongoing relationship with a primary care clinician." Located at 2368 State Road 44, AdventHealth Primary Care+ offers traditional primary care with expanded access, including same-day and next-day appointments, evening hours and video visits. The practice serves patients ages five and older and provides preventive care, sick visits and ongoing management of chronic conditions. "Primary care is most useful when it is part of a relationship, not just a single appointment," said Jessica Baird-Wertman, CEO of AdventHealth Primary Care. "Our clinicians can help patients stay current on preventive care and address concerns early. They can also coordinate additional services when a patient's needs become more complex." AdventHealth's first Primary Care+ clinic in Volusia County opened in DeLand in December 2025. Next door, AdventHealth Centra Care is open seven days a week and treats conditions, including sprains, minor infections, fevers, colds and cuts. The clinic also offers onsite X-rays and laboratory testing. The New Smyrna Beach clinic is AdventHealth's sixth urgent care location in Volusia County. The closest existing location is AdventHealth Centra Care Port Orange. "Centra Care gives patients a place to be evaluated promptly when an unexpected illness or minor injury needs attention," said Robert Paswaters, chief operating officer of AdventHealth Centra Care. "Having Primary Care+ next door also gives residents an option for ongoing care and a relationship with a clinician who can help them manage their health over time." The two clinics are the latest additions to AdventHealth's network of care in New Smyrna Beach, where the health system has continued to add services and expand access beyond the hospital campus.
