Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of related experience or experience working in customer service.
  • Experience with money handling is an asset.
  • Experience with office administration.
  • Strong skills and experience using word processing software such as Microsoft Word and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel.
  • A valid driver's license, personal vehicle, required insurance, and a satisfactory current driver's abstract are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced office setting, with attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lift or move 9 to 12 kilograms (20 to 25 pounds).
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to liaise and work with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to work in compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Ability and willingness to successfully complete applicable screening and background checks, including an Abuse Registry check, and provide an original background check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army's mission and purpose in Canada.
  • Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset.
Responsibilities
  • Attend training and orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Transport kettles to zone locations before staff or volunteers arrive at campaign onset.
  • Ensure all kettle donations are delivered to a secure location at the completion of each shift.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient staff and volunteers on proper kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support, and assign staff and volunteers throughout the campaign.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and weekly.
  • Remain at the kettle for the full shift until relieved, ensuring the security of donations received.
  • Respond to donor questions about The Salvation Army's ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign workers and volunteers.
  • Oversee Christmas Kettle campaign operations, including staff and volunteer scheduling.
  • Participate in recruiting kettle workers and volunteers.
  • Provide orientation and performance management for kettle workers and volunteers.
  • Coordinate kettle staff and volunteer schedules and respond to emergency absences.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Coordinate daily delivery and pickup of kettles from sites and deliver or pick up kettles in emergencies.
  • Host at a kettle as required to provide coverage for breaks.
  • Ensure kettle locations have adequate literature and other supplies.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly timesheets as required.
  • Organize retrieval of equipment and supplies from kettle locations after the campaign.
  • Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations remain secure.
Desired Qualifications
  • Money handling experience.
  • Completion of high school.
