About the job

Requirements
  • Deep expertise in vision-language models, multimodal learning, or large-scale foundation model pretraining.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, train, or improve state-of-the-art machine learning models.
  • Strong understanding of modern vision-language model architectures, multimodal training objectives, and vision-language alignment.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed training using PyTorch or JAX.
  • Ability to independently formulate research questions, design experiments, and turn promising ideas into working models.
  • Strong engineering skills and a track record of implementing and extending ideas from research.
Responsibilities
  • Design, pretrain, and scale vision-language foundation models for medical imaging.
  • Explore novel approaches to vision-language fusion, high-resolution image understanding, and efficient visual token representations.
  • Develop multimodal training objectives, data mixtures, and scaling strategies across large-scale image-text datasets.
  • Improve how models connect medical findings to specific regions, structures, and abnormalities within images.
  • Take research ideas from hypothesis and experimentation through large-scale distributed training, evaluation, and handoff to post-training.
  • Develop rigorous evaluations for visual understanding, grounding, generalization, and downstream model performance.
  • Publish original research, share technical insights, and help shape the direction of medical AI.
Desired Qualifications
  • Publications at leading machine learning or computer vision conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, or MICCAI.
  • Experience developing or scaling models such as LLaVA, Qwen-VL, InternVL, or similar multimodal architectures.
  • Experience training vision encoders or developing novel vision-language connector architectures.
  • Familiarity with high-resolution imaging, visual grounding, or 3D/volumetric data.
  • Experience with contrastive learning, generative pretraining, or large-scale multimodal data curation.
  • Background in medical imaging, radiology, or other scientific imaging applications.
  • Experience evaluating model factuality, interpretability, or reliability in high-stakes settings.

About the company

Epsilon Health, incorporated as Epsilon Labs, is an AI-native radiology practice that reads medical imaging and reports on it. Board-certified radiologists own every diagnosis while the company's models support throughput, accuracy, and report quality, an arrangement aimed at imaging volume that keeps rising against a shrinking radiologist workforce, leaving patients waiting days for results that should take hours. It serves imaging centers and payers, and its research teams build the models and evaluation tools the practice runs on. Unlike vendors that sell software to hospitals and leave adoption to them, it operates the practice itself, so models reach live reads instead of papers. The company's goal is to shorten turnaround by putting clinicians, engineers, and researchers inside one organization.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • September 2026 funding reached $27.6 million from AlleyCorp, Uncork, Renegade, SemperVirens.
  • Epsilon reported 2,500 daily studies and over 250,000 patients served by September 2026.
  • It already handles over half one major outpatient imaging provider's volume, proving enterprise traction.

What critics are saying

  • Most AI-assisted imaging remains bundled; CMS 2026 keeps separate reimbursement weak.
  • Teleradiology malpractice claims show higher death rates and larger payouts; remote reads heighten exposure.
  • Frontier Radiology, RadNet, and Radiology Partners are building AI-native competing reading networks.

What makes Epsilon Health unique

  • Epsilon combines AI software with physician-owned radiology operations, unlike point-solution vendors.
  • Board-certified U.S. radiologists sign every report, preserving clinical trust and licensure accountability.
  • Every corrected case expands a proprietary dataset embedded directly inside live interpretation workflows.
