Requirements
  • Master’s degree in a counseling-related field
  • If possesses a Master’s degree in social work, must obtain a license in the State of Maryland as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) within 6 months of hire
  • If possesses a master’s in another counseling related field, must obtain a license in the State of Maryland as a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) within 6 months of hire
  • Clinical level licensure is encouraged and may result in an increase in remuneration if obtained
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
  • Certification in thanatology or a grief/bereavement specialization through an approved professional organization including but not limited to the Association for Death Education and Counseling or The Portland Institute within the first three years of employment
  • Experience in hospice and bereavement support
  • Experience in community outreach and mobilization
  • Clinical experience in assessing, intervening and providing time limited counseling to clients with caregiver stress, anticipatory grief and grief and loss issues
  • Experience in public speaking in a variety of settings with groups of varying size preferred
  • Experience in facilitating support groups
  • Experience and/or willingness to serve as a field instructor for master’s level interns from a counseling related field
  • Experience with diversity, equity & inclusion
  • In-depth knowledge of the theories of grief and loss and the psychosocial issues related to death and dying
  • Mental health and bereavement knowledge and experience to ensure understanding of the basic issues of human development and behavior
  • Analytical skills necessary to assess client needs, to establish a plan of care
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively engage clients, community members, volunteers and colleagues
  • Ability to build, promote and maintain positive relationships with partners
  • Content expert in end of life, grief and loss through development

Responsibilities
  • Develop an outreach plan for grief education and support based upon department and organizational goals. Plan should support Gilchrist’s strategic initiatives
  • Establish performance metrics to promote grief and bereavement services throughout the community
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools, healthcare organizations, religious institutions, businesses, community based organizations and others to ensure that they are aware of Gilchrist’s grief support services
  • Identify other community outreach opportunities
  • Maintain data base of community outreach clients
  • Conducts education, training sessions and debriefings in the community regarding grief and bereavement
  • Provides clinical supervision for bereavement volunteers, interns and potentially staff as needed
  • Facilitates training and in-service education for bereavement volunteers, community and the greater Gilchrist/GBMC Health System
  • Assist with the planning and organizing of bereavement related events and offerings
  • Plans, guides and advises the organization on diversity, equity and inclusion matters. Collaborates with leadership and the Diversity & Inclusion Steering Committee to create, implement and monitor programs designed to ensure fair and equitable treatment of staff and the people we serve
  • If assigned, manages caseload of grieving clients providing time limited counseling. Conducts assessments of grieving clients and establishes a plan of care, coordinates with interdisciplinary team as necessary based upon department need
  • Able to work flexible schedule, including weekend, evening and nights as needed
  • Maintains communication and relationship with hospice program and overseeing bodies
  • Works collaboratively with all departments across the Gilchrist and GBMC Health System to deepen relationships and serve needs related to grief and loss
