Requirements
  • High school graduation and completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Training program are required.
  • Maintain a current Rhode Island Department of Health Certified Nursing Assistant license.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Proficiency in the English language is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform nursing procedures and patient care tasks under the general supervision of a professional staff nurse.
  • Attend to patients' personal needs and comfort and assist the staff nurse responsible for the patients.
  • Perform routine tasks independently and refer questionable situations to the appropriate staff nurse or nursing supervisor.
  • Demonstrate competency in clinical care and assessment of all patient populations, individually and as part of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, and feeding, and prepare written reports for the patient's medical record.
  • Prepare and check equipment and supplies and use resources and materials safely and efficiently.
  • Observe and communicate changes in patients' conditions to the staff nurse or nursing supervisor.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of the health care team.
  • Support unit-based Quality Assurance activities and maintain established hospital and departmental policies, objectives, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Respond appropriately to the verbal and non-verbal behavior of patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel while maintaining sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
  • Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and unit care data.

Care New England cuts 30+ leadership jobs to close $20M budget gap

Care New England is cutting more than 30 leadership and non-clinical positions to address a projected $20 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2026. The announcement comes as hospitals nationwide face financial pressures from federal Medicaid funding changes and policy overhauls. CEO Dr Michael Wagner cited uncompetitive state reimbursement rates compared with neighbouring states as factors hindering staff recruitment and retention. The health system, Rhode Island's second-largest hospital operator, employs over 8,000 people across Butler, Kent and Women & Infants hospitals. Care New England has faced ongoing financial challenges, exacerbated during the pandemic. A proposed 2022 merger with competitor Lifespan was blocked by regulators on anti-trust grounds. The company spent more than $10.8 million on executive compensation in fiscal 2024.
