About the company

Equall builds AI-powered tools for legal data analysis to help lawyers and corporate clients manage legal risk. Its Saul family of large language models is trained specifically for the legal domain and can process live data to provide real-time issue-spotting, rule-application, and interpretation. Saul models are released to researchers to encourage transparency and collaboration, differentiating Equall from general-purpose AI providers. The company aims to augment human legal work with data-driven AI to simplify and improve risk assessment in modern legal services.

What believers are saying

  • Armilar led Equall’s April 2025 funding, and PitchBook lists revenue generation.
  • Reuters reported Equall hiring legal specialists in July 2026, signaling product traction.
  • Polsinelli’s 2026 deployment validates real demand for structured corporate-legal workflows.

What critics are saying

  • Open-source SaulLM invites commoditization from Mistral, OpenAI, and Anthropic within months.
  • A March 2026 $100,000 round signals thin capitalization against compute-heavy rivals.
  • If firms trust generic copilots over SaulLM, Equall becomes a niche research project.

What makes Equall unique

  • SaulLM-141B and SaulLM-54B specialize in legal reasoning, not general chat.
  • Equall’s open models under MIT license build developer mindshare and research adoption.
  • Polsinelli embedded Equall daily in 2026 for venture-capital diligence workflows.

Equall Launches New Legal Specific Llms – The Way Forward?

Equall, a Paris-based genAI company, has released its new SaulLM-141B and 54B LLMs, specifically designed for the legal domain. The team claims that they outperform GPT4 and Mistral on a range of legal tasks. These models, which are much larger than those previously developed by the group, also once again raise the question: is it better to use a general LLM, or one specifically made for legal tasks? The new models were co-developed with CentraleSupélec at the Université Paris-Saclay and CINES. As to Equall, they say this about themselves: ‘We build serious products for serious legal work – and are redefining how lawyers and corporations deal with legal risk.’(And if you’d like to see another legally-focused LLM then check out 273’s KL3M.)In terms of the numbers 141 and 54, they refer to the tokens the models were trained on – in billions. They follow an earlier and much smaller experiment. Sources include multiple free libraries
