Requirements
  • Must be a Medical Assistant who has graduated from an approved Medical Assistant program and must have a current Medical Assistant Certified license issued from Washington State Department of Health.
  • Must be MA-Certified or possess an MA-Interim License and pass the exam within the 90 day probationary period.
  • Must adhere to the Sea Mar Employee Health Screening Policy.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire date and maintain current BLS CPR throughout employment.
  • Annual influenza vaccine required unless exempt for medical or religious reasons with a mask requirement during flu season if exempt.
  • Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required.
  • Must be able to obtain the vaccine (COVID-19 and flu) as Sea Mar is a mandatory vaccination organization.
  • Must be able to travel to other Sea Mar sites due to staffing and patient needs as needed.
  • Must be able to interact with patients of diverse backgrounds and be culturally sensitive.
Responsibilities
  • The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring that all patient clinical measures are addressed through thorough electronic health record reviews and tracking and documenting all clinical measures and outcomes for patients.
  • The MA will coordinate and process all patient referrals, internally and externally, and work with Referral Coordinators as per established protocols.
  • The MA must work collaboratively with all care team members to provide care based on the Patient-Centered Medical Home model.
  • The MA is responsible for preparing the patient for visit by obtaining subjective information and vital signs and assisting with charting during visits.
  • The MA will obtain and administer medications as ordered by the provider and assist with injections and rooming patients.
  • The MA will perform pre-huddle and participate in care team huddles to collect relevant forms, lab and x-ray reports, and review medication confirmations.
  • The MA will ensure documentation of all relevant information in Sea Mar protocols and maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • The MA will assist with ordering department supplies, infection control, waste management, and maintaining medication inventory and immunization data.
  • The MA will assist with GYN exams, minor procedures such as I&Ds, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • The MA will complete point of care referrals for patients including specialty care and care coordination and inform patients and specialist offices as needed.
  • The MA will assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results and obtaining patient notes and records from hospitals and other provider offices.
  • The MA will use AIDET to provide excellent customer service at each patient visit and coordinate patient flow.
  • The MA will resolve incoming clinical calls with supervision within one business day.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly desired.
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program with current MA-Certified license; WA State Department of Health.
  • Ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and write proficiently in English and speak and interpret in Spanish preferred.
  • Must possess problem-solving abilities, dependability, and strong customer service skills.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and willing to learn SharePoint, Arcadia, OneHealth Portal, HealthPlanFinder, electronic health records, EKG monitors, retinal cameras and other technical resources as needed.
  • Proficiency with Sea Mar’s patient management and electronic health records systems before end of probationary period.
