Requirements
  • BLS certification accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • An unrestricted license to practice nursing in one of the states, territories, or commonwealths of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • At least two years of direct patient-care experience within the last three years in the field.
  • At least two years of experience in an acute-care medical/surgical setting, excluding agency assignments, with work in that setting within the last six months.
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing is accepted; education must be completed at a school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care on an acute-care medical/surgical unit.
  • Perform patient assessments and administer medications.
  • Provide intravenous therapy and perform intravenous insertions.
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor patients using telemetry.
  • Manage admissions, discharges, and internal and external transfers.
  • Delegate duties to assistive personnel.
  • Document care in the electronic medical record.
  • Transport patients.
  • Perform emergency-response procedures.
  • Perform nasogastric tube insertion, chest-tube care, tracheostomy care, dressing changes, wound-vac therapy, and bladder irrigation.
  • Monitor patient condition and report and treat applicable findings.
  • Perform thoracentesis, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, twelve-lead electrocardiograms, Foley catheter insertion and discontinuation, Doppler pressure measurement, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, blood transfusions, blood draws, barcode medication administration, and other nursing-care procedures.

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
