- A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Six years of experience as a registered dental assistant in a private practice, clinic, or dental training program is required.
- CPR certification is required.
- Registered Dental Assistant certification is required.
- Applicants must have knowledge of dental instruments, materials, standardized dental procedures, dental terminology, infectious control policies, aseptic techniques, supplies, and equipment.
- Applicants must be able to operate dental radiographic equipment.
- Applicants must be able to multitask, work cooperatively with others, explain complex dental procedures and policies, and follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines, and objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and effective listening and organizational skills are required.
- Oversee student doctor operatory setup and breakdown and ensure compliance with College of Dentistry infection control procedures.
- Assist student doctors and attending faculty during complex dental procedures.
- Record pertinent clinic data, including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, diagnostic aids, and other in-treatment documentation.
- Provide patient information to families, including detailed postoperative care instructions.
- Review patient clinic schedules and work with attending faculty to optimize dental assistant workflow.
- Ensure student doctors with the most complex dental procedures receive dental assistant support first.
- Perform other clinical duties delegated by faculty or staff dentists.
- Supervise and lead dental assisting staff in day-to-day patient care by reviewing schedules and organizing the team to maximize clinic efficiency.
- Train newly hired dental assistants and ensure they understand College of Dentistry policies and procedures related to patient care.
- Establish performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of supervised employees.
- Serve as liaison between Clinical Affairs and program managers of various departments within the college to ensure effective clinical functions related to patients, staff, and policy adherence.
- Coordinate and monitor clinic infection control and sterilization compliance and maintenance needs.
- Lead the team in routine equipment and operatory maintenance.
- Communicate operational or personnel issues with the Assistant Director.
- Knowledge of basic infection control policies and procedures, organizational skills, and the ability to manage supply and instrument inventory.
- Some college-level courses or advanced educational courses in dental assisting.
- Three to five years of experience as a lead dental assistant or expanded-duty dental assistant.
- Supervisory experience.
- Advanced knowledge of dental terminology.
