Requirements
  • A nationally recognized personal training certification such as NASM, ACE, ACSM, ISSA, NSCA, or an equivalent certification is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must maintain CPR certification.
  • Must be available regularly with minimal planned absences.
  • Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with members, staff, and vendors.
  • Must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate leadership, organization, creativity, flexibility, relationship-building, and the ability to provide equality and inclusion for members of diverse populations.
  • Must possess knowledge of or willingness to learn Judaic culture and traditions, including Jewish holidays, rituals, and customs.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible working schedule to accommodate the JFORCE Program and the Department of Fitness and Wellness.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting, bending, and reaching; operating cardio and weight-training machinery; lifting 50 pounds regularly; reaching overhead and to the floor repeatedly during a shift; and standing for 8-hour shifts.
Responsibilities
  • Lead small-group personal training sessions for 4 to 20 participants.
  • Demonstrate and coach proper exercise technique and movement patterns.
  • Modify exercises for participants with different fitness levels, limitations, and injuries.
  • Prepare the class space with organized equipment, music, and class plans.
  • Begin and end classes on time according to the scheduled format and duration.
  • Keep certifications current and on file with the Levine JCC.
  • Ensure workouts are approved by the JFORCE Program Manager and align with JFORCE program goals.
  • Conduct fitness assessments and goal-setting consultations within the trainer’s scope of practice.
  • Track client progress and communicate recommendations for continued improvement.
  • Provide customer service to JFORCE participants, potential participants, and Levine JCC members.
  • Assist with maintaining social media posts for JFORCE participants and marketing purposes.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for participants.
  • Build positive relationships with members, learn their names, and encourage consistent attendance.
  • Promote wellness and body positivity.
  • Assist with recruiting and retaining JFORCE participants as directed by the JFORCE Program Manager.
  • Ensure exercises are performed safely and with proper form.
  • Monitor participants for fatigue, discomfort, or improper technique and provide guidance or modifications.
  • Follow Levine JCC safety procedures and incident protocols.
  • Respond to accidents, incidents, and emergencies appropriately and professionally.
  • Ensure equipment is used, cleaned, and maintained properly.
  • Maintain knowledge of and enforce Levine JCC rules and policies.
  • Meet regularly with the JFORCE Program Manager and other coaches for program planning, development, review, and evaluation.
  • Communicate schedule changes, class needs, and member concerns to the JFORCE Program Manager and other JFORCE coaches.
  • Implement JFORCE programming philosophies, class structures, and coaching standards.
  • Attend occasional staff meetings, trainings, or special events.
  • Promote cooperation and participation within the Department of Fitness and Wellness and the Levine JCC.
  • Make independent decisions regarding equipment and facility safety and member or program-user needs and concerns.
  • Address member concerns and complaints professionally, with customer service as the focus.
  • Articulate the influence of Judaic culture on programs to members and staff.
  • Manage time and responsibilities effectively and respond to constructive criticism and feedback.
  • Resolve conflicts effectively and help maintain an environment supporting participants’ physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development.

  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with customer-service orientation and particular strength in diplomacy and discretion.
